    Hi black-saturn,

What about the reception venue, the food and beverages?
My parents are friends with people who own a holiday camp so we are having the reception in the holiday clubroom with a sit down meal. I don't know how much it is but my parents are getting it cheap.

Ebay! If you don't mind them wearing a dress someone else has worn once ebay is great.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Debenhams Debut range is good for bridesmaids - buy in sales. Woolies also has childrens' outfits for £15.00 at the moment.
  • Hi!!!,just found this thread so will go back and read it from the beginning, might take me a while but I am sure to get loads of helpful advice and ideas.
Just want to post a few little questions to get me started.
I am having my engagement party this saturday and our planned wedding date is in November 2008, so loads of time to plan,I think?
I have seen amounts vary for the average wedding and will not,and cannot pay £15-20,000 for a wedding however special.I used the wedding budget guide on the www.confetti.co.uk site and came up with a figure of £6,500 for the occassion.I thought the average cost suggested on the planner for a dress was ridiculous at over £1,500 and put just £500 in the box for my whole outfit.I have since had a look at the kind of dresses I like and am shocked to see they start at about £1,600.
So my total will be more like £7,500.Are we supposed to pay for the mothers outfits too?
Sorry for rambling but quite simply my questions are,
What is the average price for the big day and what is the average price for the wedding dress?
We are paying for the wedding ourselves and have just over a year to save up for it.Do you think my £6,500-£7,500 estimate is realistic.

The most beautiful castle which I have set my heart on for my wedding has just been sold to a highland sporting events company. So glad its still available as a few of the possible buyers were going to use it as their private home. The price for renting it has gome up by £1,000 though so I am now at an estimate of £8,500 for the event. The plus side is that the new owners are event managers too so will be able to arrange everything for me:D

  • Does anyone know of any other wedding sites with good advice on planning and budgeting with budget sheets etc to fill out and print? The one I found on confetti is okay, here is mine,I deleted some lines which were not applicable to me such as bridesmaid and maid of honour gifts and added a line for gifts for all instead.Comments welcome, especially keen to be told if you think I have missed out anything imortant:D .

    announcements £50

gifts for all 10 guests- £200

    entertainment -£500(days out and a hunting/shooting trip)
    wedding insurance- £54

John Lewis are currently doing 50% off certain styles of Rainbow Club wedding shoes. I just bought mine from the Oxford street branch and they are soooooooo comfortable.

I bought Miranda from the Bliss range which have extra padding and also a polycotton insole so that they are very comfortable indeed. I would highly recommend them as I am not a heels girl at all and have just managed to buy a pair with 2 1/2 heels which feel like heaven! :D

thanks for this, i'm off to London this weekend and may try and make it to John Lewis, only hope the sale is still on and they do wide fitting shoes.
  • Hi there. My shoes are Medium wide fitting and a lot of the shoes do have a sticker on the bottom to indicate what kind of fitting they are.

If you can't find anything in the shops, then try https://www.elegantsteps.co.uk where in their search function, you can select wide fitting shoes. Good luck!

thanks showtunesgirl, never made it to John Lewis but will try the online shop, did find the fabric for my dress though, a snip at £300! but it's beautiful, just need to ring and check that they sell it on a bolt as it's in an Asian shop so sells the fabric in 5 yd pieces and would rather have it whole than two 5 yd packs.
