It is 16 months, or 71 weeks and 4 days, or simply 501 days til my wedding. I can't wait. Have just started thinking about it this week.
First thing I've done is sort out the budget (very MSE, although it is £7000), now I'm considering venues. I'm so excited I can't concentrate on work.
  • Hi
Regarding my requests for interviewees, I would love to be able to pay you for talking to me - but it's generally condidered unethical for journalists to pay because it distorts what people say. So if you have cut costs for your wedding, do please get in touch gareth_rubin@yahoo.co.uk. But I can contribute good thoughts...
    Thanks.

:j Am getting married on 29th September - this year! So, am trying to get organised, this is not my natural state .. :rotfl:

We are having the reception - afternoon tea [sandwiches, cakes, tea and cordials, no "drink"] at home in our main room, then a barbecue and bonfire about 7pm. Planning to hold a "Village Fete" in between as we have no need of any more toasters/toast racks! to keep everyone happy. We are hoping to raise some money for local charities via our wedding presents [donations to charitable funds please] and bar [profits to ditto]

My very generous friends have volunteered to do the cakes and sandwiches for us, I am decorating a cake myself as the wedding cake

So far we seem to be ok on the MSE front - only it's the dress. I can't seem to find a wedding dress hire company/shop in South Wales/Powys area for love nor money, can anyone help, please?

Thanks so much to everyone for all the suggestions and hints - I've been an addict on this thread for ages now. I'm about to contact WelshImages, so any feedback on how they turned out would be most welcome too.
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D
  • Quick Hen / Stag do suggestion.

Center Parcs. My best friend had her hen weekend her not so long back. A weekend (Friday to Monday) worked out at £70 a head for 14 of us sharing two simple comfort villa's. It was a lovely weekend but here are a few things to bear in mind...

    1. It is likely that you will not get ajoining villas. You are able to get them close together but you may have to pay a suppliment.

    2. Make firm arrangements as to who brings what food & booze wise. We ended up with lots of some things & very little of others. (Although everyone brought a loo roll!)

    3. If you wish to use the spa / book any of the treatments BOOK IN ADVANCE you do have to pay a booking fee but the treatments get booked up very quickly & you will struggle to get treatments together. Some may be very late in the evening or very early. You may be better to book a spa break if that is what you want.

    3. Certain activities also get booked up very quickly so they are better booked before you arrive.

    4. Don't ask for the vouchers as presents. You can't use them to prebook anything over the phone & if you struggle to get on to an activity that you want to do you may end up wasting them on things that you wouldn't normally have bought.

    5. Other than that it is a lovely place to spend a few days & the pools are guarenteed to make you feel about 10 years old again.

BTW The boys had a boozy weekend in London & I think that we got the better end of the deal.
  • Another tip. Unless you get hold of it ridiculously cheaply or free don't bother with the bloomin table confetti. Everyone has it yet all it serves to do it get stuck to the bottom our glass & it will get binned at the end of the evening because I really can't imagine anyone sorting through it to find the good bits that aren't soggy or covered in cake.
