Just to update you all (I was asking about tiaras a while back) - I went and bought the one from the lady today. I was worried about the price but I decided to go for it. I love it! I've even ordered a necklace too (oops). I fee lreally good because I love the jewellery, and I've bought from an artist (I guess that's how I'd describe her) which I've never had the chance to do before.
Hope I don't regret spending on it.....!!!!

I sooooo wish that I knew about this thread when I got married in may last year!
We - well, I - did loads of stuff to shave money off the cost of our wedding. Made all the invites, order of service, menus and name cards. Just kept it all really simple - mum 'borrowed' loads of cream card from work, I chose some fancy font in microsoft word then did a nice gold line all round the edge. Looked really effective and nobody guessed I'd done it all by my wee self! Just a tip when folding bits of card, find a big heavy book open it somewhere in the middle, put one end of card along the seam and fold other end to meet it so they both butt up against the seam. Gives you a perfect fold every time. Oh yeah, and make sure the words to the hymns are right in the order of service! We did have a moment of pure comedy when the vicar was the only one singing the right words - whoops!
Favours for the tables were just layers of tutu netting which you can get in any colour you want, with chocolate footballs in and gathered and secured with gold stretchy elastic.
Wedding cakes seem to be a bit of a bone of contention on here. I didnt have to think about ours as one of my mums friends offered to do it as our present but I did have another idea as the big day approached. At a friends wedding they had loads of fairy cakes on a stand type thing which looked really effective. But one of my favourite treats is mars bar crispie cakes. Chop all the chocolate off a tonne of mars bars, melt the middle and mix it with rice cripies, squash into a tray of some description, then melt remaining chocolate and pour over the top and cut in to squares. Yum, yum. These can be made ages in advance and put in the freezer and just arranged nicely on the day. Squares dont have to be very big as they're so sickly that no one will want much!
Ooo, I could go on forever, I'll shut up now.
    Mmmmmmm, mars bar crispie cakes........

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who voted for Tony & Amanda - they have been more than touched by everyones thoughts to say the least!!! I have just spoken with (a very jittery!) Tony - they will not know until this evening if they have won so I will have to get them to join the website to post how they got on as I use works computer...!
from what I can gather, the competition website was that inundated with people voting it couldnt cope and kept having problems!!!!! once again, thank you to everyone who voted and fingers crossed they win
  • Hi
me and the OH are getting married in march 07. We've kept to the budget with family helping (although thay have gone a little over the top but i'm not complaining) and me making all of the invites order of service etc myself plus a lot of good bargains of ebay for the table decorations.

Everything is booked now we just have to wait for the big day but the one thing we just can't finalise is what food to have for the sit down meal.
the menu is pretty standard with the usual 3 courses but our whole wedding is based on doing things that match our personalities and not doing the norm.

we dont like most of the things on the menu as we don't like fussy food and neither will wither of our families are like our homecooked food that you can eat and isn't intended to be art on a plate.
The venue has agreed to do whatever we want.

I suggested a full english breakfast but eveyone just looks at me funny, my OH suggested fish and chips. my brother suggested chicken fajitas. I want something that will get eaten and as were not getting married till 1 and the meal isn't till 4 i think people will be a litle more than hungry. Something a bit more substantial than meat and 2 veg.

Has anyone else had anything at there wedding that was different to the normal sit down meal. I could really use your ideas.
  • Apologies if you all already knew this, but apparently Oxfam have stores in the UK that have specialist Bridal departments! The article said that Oxfam get a lot of their dresses from Catwalk shows and posh frock shops - thought it may be worth a mention. The article is here.

I realise it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for those on a really tight budget, it might prove to be of use.

You can hire a company to come and be in charge of a hogroast for you...:j
My friend was going to have a big barbeque...:D
I guess you can check the yellow pages for inspiration
