Does anyone know of someone in the north west(preferably near wigan) that does embroidery. My sister is going for a black and white theme, we are geting the bridesmaid dresses from ebay- they are black with white embroidery, she wants the opposite. All the ones she has seen are aroud the £300 mark. So she has decided to buy a chep one from ebay and have a design put on it- we just can't find any one to do it
    Cheers

Hi I am new to the boards
My brother is gettin married, and they are on a tight budget.
I was wondering if there was a way to seperate the info into sub boards
like- one for flowers, one for photography, one for dresses, etc etc
This info on here is great, i would just find it easier to search specific areas if this was at all possible?

That's a great idea Claire - I'd second it - it took me a week solid to get through this board! Not sure if it's possible though...

You can always try the search this thread link above, maybe that would help.

My other half went suit shopping today (to hire) and discovered that Formal Affairs (this is in cardiff - not sure if they have other shops - I would presume so) has a 40% reduction on suit hire in October, as they are past the summer wedding rush and prior to the christmas party rush.

    yeay!

Also, if you buy your dress from pronuptia they give you a 20% reduction on their suit hire, as long as there are 6 suits being hired. They are more expensive to start with though....

I got married 9 years ago and boy was money tight! I didn't have the traditional wedding dress as we got married in a register office. I chose a red dress to get married in which i picked up new for £15 from a factory outlet store, shoes were £40, made our own wedding favours by buying red netting and white ribbons and wrapped white sugared almonds in them. Got my hair done at the local college as a model, cost £3.50, wedding rings were £20 for mine and £35 for the other half. I did my own make up. I bought my husband a blue tie with red lips on for £7.99 as it matched his navy suit and tied in with the red theme for the wedding.
We bought 3 plain white iced cakes from Tesco, tied a red ribbon round them all and piped the decoration on ourselves.
My bouquet was £20, mother in laws corsage was £10 and 4 button holes were £10.
We bought 3 bottles of Moet Champagne for the toast, and guests brought their own alcoholic drink.
We hired a community centre hall for £30 for 6 hours.
I made vol au vents, sausage rolls, sandwiches, cheese on a stick, and my mother in law made chicken curry and rice.
The guests took photos there were about 50 guests and my brother in law d-jayed for us. I had such a lovely time and was glad that i didn't shell out loads, just for a few hours of fun. We will however, be shelling out a bit more for our ten year anniversary next year as we have found lost relatives who were not at the wedding. I will probably be a bit thrifty by wearing the dress i got married in again!!!! Can't do that with a merangue dress!
And yes the lady in the avatar is me

We recently announced our wedding and have been busy planning. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or recommendations for a videographer near my area (West Yorkshire). How much should I expect to pay?

    Thanks, Nina.
A BIG thank you everyone who takes the time to reply my posts :hello:

I was just wondering if anyone could suggst how to find venues for a registry service? The few that I've looked at just don't seem to cover what I want - I don't really know what I want, it just wasn't them.....

Thanks heaps, and thanks for all the links to everything....I'm having great fun looking at dresses and things at the moment, although disappointed to see that butterflies are a regular theme....will have to rethink what I want in the wedding...except a wonderful husband :)

You should be able to find your loacl registry office online. They should have a list of licensed venues in your area. https://www.hitched.com also has some ideas.

The list from your registry office should contain some nice surprises like golf clubs, and even som not so nice surprises like leisure centres!!

    EDIT
BTW, I can't remember the exact prices I saw for alterations in Pronuptia, but I remember thinking they looked extortianate!!
Will I be better off going to an independent seamstress? Any recommendations for a good one in the Cardiff area?

I posted a message on our work noticeboard and asked for seamstress recommendations and got loads at a much better price and also with the added comfort of being recommended by someone I know. Could you do this or ask everyone you know for a recommendation?
