On this morning this week there made up a simple wedding cakes which looked fab.
They brought three iced sponges (from asda, tescos etc) and had fresh flowers just laying on top.
They were large flowers, just brushed and dipped in sugar...they did look really gorgeous. You don't need many if you're going for a large flower head and so very simple.

All the best for your wedding :)

Is there such a thing as a website for keeping track of your wedding plans? i.e. when to book the venue, when to send out invites etc etc?

www.confetti.co.uk has "to do" lists that you can personalise to suit your own circumstances.

Personally I would book as far in advance as you can so there is a better chance of getting what you would like. We've got bookings for weddings 2 years in the future!
Here I go again on my own....

    Hi all,
Just thought I'd let you know how we're getting on.
We've got a lovely venue. I've got a recent photographer graduate doing photos for free (check out your local forum). An offer of a veil to go with the cheap dress. Silk flowers from hobby craft to make bouquets and button holes (i'll prob have real though). butterfly punch holes to make both butterflies for the tables and to make patterns on paper, which will then be notelets for a guest tree (like a guest book, but people peg them to a tree and then later you can put them in a book with photos of the various people).
men's suits from Debenhams (£63 each, with groom going free and 10% discount if we open a debenhams card).
still need tiaras for my bridesmaids.
I'm having pretty sequined slippers for dancing in (with ribbon wrapped roound my legs to keep them on). will find some pretty sandals for walking down the aisle.
cakes from m and s, they do sponge and fruit so we're having a mix. then doing some kind of butterfly decoration
    :D
    so, its' going well :)

Glad it's all going well, not long now!! You probably already know this but make sure the fruit one is on the bottom as the sponge one cant support the sponge cake

    Hi everyone!

I am getting married abroad (Lithuania) and we are doing separately civil ceremony this december with no reception (well, maybe we will go to the restaurant with my parents and a few friends, but nothing much) and then next August we are having church ceremony and big reception (two days - it is traditional) with his and mine relatives and friends. We already sorted out few things (booked the farmsteads for people to sleep and to hold the reception, agreed wioth fotographer and musicians, talked with priest). I know it is very different from wedding here, but there are still some things that I need to get here.

I wanted to ask your advice. I need an outfit for the civil ceremony. It is not a big thing, just going to town hall with two wittnesses and signing the papers, but I still want to look nice. I would like to get something that I could use for the civil ceremony and maybe the second day of the wedding as well in summer? I am not sure what would I like really, as it will be cold in winter. I have some points saved on Pigsback and I was thinking to order vouchers either for John Lewis or Arcadia group (topshop, Outfit, Wallis, Dorothy Perkins). What would you suggest? Does John Lewis do nice clothes that could get? I will be getting proper wedding dress for my church wedding, su this has to be something practical, but still nice.

    Hi everyone
After lurking for what seems like ages, I'm finally jumping in to say hi. Getting married in October, wedding will cost about £3800 and we're saving like mad. Also moving house around that time so getting rid of lots of junk on ebay (its amazing how much junk one person can accumulate, not to mention books. I read too fast!). Got pretty good deals on photographer, venue etc and got my dress from ebay. Time is going so fast!

Looking forward to chatting to you all:beer:

    Hi All,
Just had another photographer offer to do our photos. He looks pretty good, but he's based in london so we'll have to pay travel costs as well. However he's very reasonable. He shoots all day for £600, then gives you the photos on disc and does any manipulation on any of the shots you want. Then advises on places to get them printed at your own cost. He sounds very reasonable and does give you all the photos if you want them, which is something that was important to me. I can't vouch for him, as we've not used him, he's a friend of a friend, but if anyone is on a tight budget he might be worth gettting in touch with. PM me if you want his email addy.

    Hello all.

Thought I'd introduce myself quickly... I am getting married next week Saturday :j :j
I still can't believe how quickly the time passed.

I think we really did a good job spending wise. The whole wedding will cost us about 1000 pounds... Here is what we have done:

We designed our invites ourselves, I printed them off at work. So we only had to pay for paper and envelopes. And they looked really nice...Send all of them off on 2nd class post about three months before the wedding.
Getting married at the local Town Hall. It was 60 pounds registration fee and 150 pounds for the suite in which we will get married.
We only invited our closest friends and family to the ceremony, so all in all there will be about 35 people.
We have engaged a good friend as main photographer for free and bought loads of cameras at lidl for 1,99 each for friends and family to use. We are hoping to get a few pics out of that.
Have called around for taxi quotes to transport the ceremony guests to the venue and booked the cheapest one which was about 50 pounds for 35 people! Good deal seeing that some taxi firms quoted us 100 quid!
We have found a great pub with conservatory and beergarden which we are getting for free as we promised to fill the place out (no problems here). We only have to pay 100 quid for security and 70 pounds for the sound engineer for the band. We will arrive with the ceremony guests at 4.30 and the pub is putting on a great vegetarian buffet for 150 pounds for 35 people, which I think is a great deal. We are not having any decorations as the pub looks great in itself. I think pink balloons would just ruin it...
The rest of the reception guests (about 120) will arrive at 6.30.
My husband-to-be's dad is playing for two hours with his band. So we only have to pay petrol to the band which will be about 130 pounds for six musicians. We don't have a DJ because we are sure we couldn't find anyone who would fit our music taste and get it right. So we have made CD's to play on the night and have spent hours putting songs in the right order to keep everyone on the dance floor...
My mum is making the cake and my aunt who is a florist will do the flowers and look after the flower girl.
We will not pay the drinks for everyone but the pub is very cheap. We have saved up about 600 pounds drinks money and we will give drinks vouchers to immediate family and closest friends so that they don't have to pay for their drinks.
We are asking for money instead of presents for our honeymoon, as we are only 24 years old and haven't got a lot of money to spare... We are going to Austria for two weeks for our honeymoon. Should be lovely.

That's it really. We are keeping it simple and I am sure it will save us a lot of stress.
