  • To scooper who was looking for light wedding dresses. I'm getting hitched in Sardinia 10 weeks today (aaagggh) and my best mate found a fab top with a matching thin silk skirt at a dress sale we went to in Grantham. The sale was advertised on the Confetti website - they have them every few months in London and Grantham. Was £100 for the skirt and £400 for the top - so not that cheap, but the top is quite plain so I can wear it in the future with a different skirt / trousers etc (if I don't put all the weight back on again!!) and I haven't seen anything similar anywhere else. Had to queue for ages though so get there early if you go (and don't forget to choose your undies carefully as there's just one huge changing room!!)
There's some lovely dresses for overseas weddings on https://www.dzage.co.uk and https://www.mon-cheri.co.uk/destinations too - good luck!
  • To save money on flowers we're planning on having glass bowls, £3.50 each from M&S with floating candles and some dried orchid heads I found really cheap on eBay - seller is eko-kraft. They also have loads of petals for confetti although my fiance bought a beautiful bouganvillea from the garden centre for £15 the other week and I'm pressing all the flowers as they fall off - the petals make the best confetti as they float really slowly to the ground.

Just joined this website and only just found this forum posting!

Just wanted to pass on my tips from my hugely successful (and very reasonably priced) wedding from last year.

My wedding dress was made specially from a eshop on Ebay, made to my size and specifications and cost £250! We hired the suits from Burtons, which saved quite a lot of money in the long run. We got a personal recommendation for our photographer (someone my mum knew at work) and this cost only £500. We booked quite a lavish hotel, but managed on the basic drinks package and meal allowance, and the honeymoon suite was thrown in, and everything was fantastic.

I got invitations samples, and adapting one design we received, made our own invites on the computer, which saved a fortune!

I got everything for my favours from confetti in the sales, and I cant praise ebay enough for chocolates, guest books, bubbles etc.

My table decorations were candle rings from Dunhelm (£1.99 each) and huge church candles from Poundland (£1 each, obviously :D ) and I bought inexpensive table confetti to scatter. My placecards were from our local market and the cake topper was bought in Birthdays sale as well.

For a top notch wedding at a 4* hotel, for 60 guests daytime and over 150 nighttime, the wedding cost just short of £5000, for everything! Check out ebay and sales on wedding sites to pick up huge bargains! People who attended my wedding to this day still talk about it, and still think it cost over £15,000!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
You're so very special, I wish I was special

    hotel 2nts £150 late rooms

honeymoon - lake district 7nts self catering apartment £400 ebay

    engagement ring £200 ebay

decor -tealights and holders ikea borrowed from friend who just got wed!!:j

    dead cheap x

Hi thought i'd let u know how smiths was. Stayed 2 nights and loved it, its the best hotel i've been at.

Stayed in family room with a king size bed, it is massive and so soft!! want a bed like that now:T kids had their bunkbeds and they got a playstation hire as well, kept them quiet:rotfl:

Braekfast was fantastic, a great selection and the staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

Had room service a couple of times and it was great, we had to go back to edinburgh to drop off our kilts and due to traffic and getting lost in edinburgh we didn't get back til after 8pm so we had to cancel our dinner booking as it was too late for the kids!

Phoned to let them know and was told they offered a limited menu for room service. fair enough.

But when we arrived the duty manager was on and he took us through to the resaurant and we could pick from the full menu for room service! loved the dinner and the lemon pudding was to die for!!

I am def going back there again, my hair and make up was stunning, 40 pounds for hair up and 30 for the makeup, but well worth the price.

Hope you enjoy the hotel as much as i do:j

 Hi everyone! I am getting married on 16 June 2007, the wedding breakfast will be in a marquee and I am currently looking for Centrepiece ideas.......................can anyone help??
We are on a budget so want something cheap, and something with a little bit of height because of the height of the marquee.
We have considered balloons but are going off of the idea, so looking for any alternatives!

    Lots of pics here

    Hi all,

sorry to be smug, but just wanted to post what I think is going to be my best bargain.
I've been panicing a bit about having 5 adult bridesmaids, about finding enough dresses the same in the right size at a price I can afford. I was hating thinking I'd have to go to a proper bridal shop and get them full price.
Then tk maxx came to my rescue. They had a alovely top and skirt (full bridesmaid style thing) in the colour I wanted, but it was a size 22 and I reckon my biggest bridesmaid is a 18 at the most. I'd seen it before and left it, but my mum was with me and persuaded me we could take it in. Anyway, after hunting around we found 6 of the same colour outfit, 3 with bustier tops and 3 with strappy tops, totally lovely. The sizes are a bit mad. one is a size 10 petite, which hopefully my smallest bridesmaid will fit into, but if not, no worries. Then I've got a range from 16 to 22. Since I'm a sizee 12/14 and the 16 fits me perfectly, i'm not worrying about them being toooo huge. Of course they'll have to be taken in, but probably not as much as I think.
And the best bit? the price obviously! They were only £19.99 full price, but reduced to £9! I couldn't believe it!
We even have a spare dress from which I can make little bags for everyone or a sash for my little bridesmaid (the sixth one, but she doesn't count, as she'll look cute in anything).
So my advice is to have a really good look in tx maxx. It's great if you've only got one or 2 bridesmaids, as they have some lovely dresses, but it's not impossible to get more, if you're willing to put in some work.

I've even got my fingers crossed that if I go to the out of town one I'll find more in different sizes!

Feeling chuffed, in case you can't tell. I really wanted to get them bought before I go to Singapore for a year. And now I have a colour scheme to match things to, so I can crack on witht eh rest of it...
    :D

Another table idea is to get pebbles and paint them to your colour scheme. The put them around candles.

And if you're artistic paint flowers or other wedding-y things on some bigger ones. Can also be used for place names or for holding down balloons.
We did it for a friends' wedding, and named all the big stones and put a message on the back - such as 'this stone is called gladys, she likes purple handbags', 'this stone is Bob, he likes beer'

Perhaps a little twee, but everyone seemed to like them, and the couple have kept the stones to remind them.
    :)

Dont quote me on latest rules, as I say,,, Search !!
