We didn't find the Blacksmiths too public. People did stand and watch outside on arrival, and while we had some pics taken outside. Once inside for the ceremony, the forge was roped off and curtains drawn across, so only our guests were present for the ceremony.
I prefered getting married here as it's the original spot where marriages have taken place for hundereds of years, and there's a special romantic magic there. The other forge theme rooms in the hotels, just didn't evoke the same feelings for us.
The best advice is to take a trip to Grenta Green and visit all the venues and go with the one that feels best for you. Here I go again on my own....0 -
To keep the children entertained at my evening reception I have made up a quiz and will give this out with a disposable camera.....where did we meet, take a picture of the oldest and youngest person in your family dancing etc. I have made clipboards from old table mats. One side will be covered in a wedding pic, the other with perhaps a cartoon. I have bought puzzle pads & colouring in to attach with a bulldog clip and a fancy pen. Loads of colouring pencils also (long ones so they can be sawn in half). I am still working on the quiz so any ideas welcome. I'll post it in full when it is finished if anyone feels it would be useful.0

I'm looking to get married in or near Leeds, although to be honest I'll consider anywhere in Yorkshire. Does anyone have any venue suggestions?
I really want somewhere like an old country house/hotel where we can hace the civil ceromony, the reception and then where my family that have had to travel from London can stay overnight.
Please help, as although I had what I cosider to be quite a healthy budget (5 grand just for venue hire and sit down meal and drinks for about 80) I'm really struggling, and as this is a moneysaving site, the cheaper the better.0 -
Would you consider York? Or is that too far?
My brother had his wedding reception in the Merchant Advernturers Hall. It's a beautiful building. http://www.theyorkcompany.co.uk/
They were married in the registry office (which is the smartest one I've been in!), but you can get married in the hall if you wish.
We had a formal meal served in the Great Hall for family and friends. In the evening we had a celidah band in the Undercroft, along with other friends, work collegues etc.
There is a Travel Lodge within walking distance, plus numerous other hotels and B&B's nearby.
I can highly recommend this venue. My brother really enjoyed his wedding, and so did I!Here I go again on my own....0 -

My friend is getting married at Nostell Priory in Wakefield

It looks really nice. You can get married there and have the reception and there are a few hotels nearby. Also handy for the M1 or trains from London to Wakefield Station0 -
Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.
I already had Merchant Advernturers Hall on my list to look at, so I'm glad you enjoyed it there. Thanks for the wakefield suggestion, I'll have to add that to my list!0 -
Has anyone bought their wedding dress from ebay? If so what was it like, any sellers you would recommend?0

I bought my dress from ebay. It was the dress the lady that sold wore on her wedding day and she paid about £900 for it brand new, I got it for £180 and its lovely
