Nokia N 95 & GPS Costs

Got my N95 a couple of days ago via PhoneboxDirect on T-Mobile  I have tried everything inclding sitting on a deserted beach for an hour to be away from tall buildings and still the GPS cannot pickup any satelites
Unless I'm missing something the GPS on this phone is a dud and I'm going to have to send it back to PhoneboxDirect - of course their closed over easter
This is my first dealing with Phoneboxdirect - does anyone know what they are like when it comes to replacing faulty phones?0

I don't think the phone is faulty, you have to connect to WAP or WiFi service to use supplied maps. If you go to apps /tools /gps /data position you should see your location, you need to have the keyboard open and wait quite a while. Location will be as Lat/Lon etc but it does test the GPS.0

Are you sure that your phone is set up to use the internal GPS?0

Tools, settings, general, positioning....mine has tick next to Internal GPS and network based.0

 Menu\Tools\GPS Data\Options\Positioning settings = Intergrated GPS
Menu\Tools\GPS Data\Position results in "No Connection"
Menu\Tools\GPS Data\Position\Options\Satelite status = (no satelite data available)

There's always the possibility that I've missed something but I don't think so. Also tried a Factory reset incase I'd messed up a configuration.0

Looks as though you are right, it is duff. Any chance you have found Flight Mode, I am off to Oz soon and would like to use it on board?0

Page 134 of the manual `vehicles` says it can`t be used onbard aircraft.0

I don't believe it, a PDA phone that can't be used on aircraft, its going back then. Even the 6131 has flight mode!0

The Scan Barcode thing can be found in Menu > Office > Barcode. I've a feeling it's a vodafone thing. The idea is that you can use the camera to scan barcodes. It's largely useless, but email addresses and other info can be put on barcodes, and it may be useful if you're looking around Ikea trying to decide what furniture you want....
Yeah, maploader is what I use as well (to memory card) - it's faster than downloading as needed, and _vastly_ cheaper.
I've got the barcode thing on my n93 (o2). It's for scanning stuff like a magazine or dvd, you can then go straight to a website about the item or to somewhere like amazon to buy the item.Illegitimi non carborundum.0

If anybody else is interested, I have found Flight Mode it is called Offline Profile just press on/off button and scroll to Offline. The sim can be removed also but the problem is that WiFi can still be used not so good for aircraft unless that is disabled as well.0
