To say it's to encourage more people to use public transport is troublesome in all honesty. I live across the road from the hospital, but need to drive my dd there because of her disabilities, takes a wee bit longer in the car, because we use a different entrance and struggle to find a parking place, usually have to drop her at the entrance and go on the hunt for a space. But, if I wasn't driving her, she'd need to get a taxi most days, as the days are few and far between that she can get onto a bus. Not that many cover that short distance, they go into the hospital from the other end of the town.

A healthy person could probably do it in a 5-10 minute walk, in fact, I walked home after my Carpal Tunnel op, and it's nothing. Really.

Think to use the old encourage the use of public transport for most disabled people is a joke in all honesty.

Do you think they can cope with the traffic at present?
How would you suggest they increase the parking capacity, if they make parking free for everyone, as appears to be the preference posted here, and encourage motorists to take their cars there?

But how would anyone with mobility issues get there without their cars... As stated above, it would be taxis for my dd anyway, as she's so close to the hospital. As she can barely walk the length of herself on her crutches at the moment, there's no way she can walk it. There are some days she can get on a bus, these are few and far between. Or would she be better arranging hospital transport and letting the NHS pay for that too?

I'd rather see myself taking her than her waiting around for hours for hospital transport, which would also be a drain on the NHS. You're not going to tell me, that would be cheaper than her mother taking her over and using a car park space? A taxi would just be as much traffic on the road. An ambulance to pick her up would be... well, imo it would be expensive. Especially with the amount of appointments she has.

You are missing the point yet again, unlike a supermarket where you can pick and choose which one you go to, and at any time of your choosing. You normally have no choice on which hospital or what time you go there, you have set appointments or are visiting people who are in patients with visiting hours.

You have no choice, you must go there, a lot of people probably cannot spend hours using and waiting for public transport, if they must go to hospital regularly the cost will be more than most can afford. Successive Governments have cut public transport subsidies to such an extent that it can't even be called public transport any longer. The only realistic option currently is using your own or a family/friends vehicle to get there.

If you have any other reasonable option, why don't you enlighten us all with it.

Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

    Read the article fully.

He's trying to persuade people to use public transport and is claiming its no more difficult for disabled people to use public transport than anyone else.

Forget the charges for a second.

    Sheesh.

    This!!! :D

That's why it's potentially a breach of the Equality Act 2010 because there's no reasonable adjustment being considered for genuine disabled patients and disabled visitors, to ensure that they can still easily access the service.

Forget the charges, ManxRed, taffy and I are looking at the bigger picture.

    So. your point is what?
It was a simple question, you need to explain to us how you suggest they fit the cars into the car park when you make it free for all. Or do you simply believe it can't possibly be full?
So, what's your answer to it, if you can suggest a solution, I'm sure we'll all be grateful. Especially the people that use it now, and can't get into a parking space.

    That's his opinion.

Nothing he has done breaches the act. The parking spaces are still there. Access is still there. He has merely charged equally. The act has never insisted that free parking be provided for all, just that a reasonable adjustment must be made.

And if public transport isn't "reasonably adjusted", that's an issue with public transport.

The point is, that public transport is not practical for a lot people, you appear to think that by offering free parking it will encourage more people to use the car, I happen to disagree with you. These people would come in any case as they have no option.

So please enlighten us with your words of wisdom on what can be done, you as coupon says always play the devil's advocate on here, so lets see how mikey would fix it, as you are always offering such constructive comments here.

I wait with baited breathe :)

You appear not to grasp the problem at all.

    The car park is full.
    It's at capacity.
They can't fit the number of cars that arrive daily into spaces.

You appear to have a solution to the parking problem, you need to tell us how to either increase the spaces, or reduce the number of cars.
It's a simple problem, so let's hear your answer.

Otherwise, we'll simply have to agree the one presented is the only one, unless you can do better.
