Just to let everyone know the latest. Today a damp expert arrived from a very reputable company (I know this because I checked around and made sure). He checked the whole house, including lifting the carpet to check the floorboards and found a little bit of damp on my mum's living room wall (not where we thought it might be), he was very nice and I got the impression he was very honest. He told us that the cost of fixing this would be between 300 and 400 pounds. As you can imagine we are all delighted. He was going to contact the prospective buyer's solicitor this afternoon and we are now waiting to here from my mum and dad's solicitors as to the outcome which in my mind is very promising indeed as I was speaking to the prospective buyer's aunt this evening and she tells me that they are still very keen on the house. So we might know something tomorrow. Fingers x'd

Well here's hoping, can't wait to see the for sale sign in the garden covered with a big red sold notice.
  • It shouldn't be long now :) Why not speak with your solicitor and ask about setting an entry date?

Just waiting on word from the solicitor regarding word from the prospective buyer, hopefully we will here tomorrow. As for an entry date my mum and dad can move anytime from now so that is not going to be a problem. My mum and dad have been married 52 years and I think they have kept everything from congratulatory birth cards for my 51 year old brother and 46 year old me so throwing out is going to be a joy for me, for them it will be an argument, let the fun begin.

Another annoying thing happened today, a lady came to my mum's door, my mum was in herself and the lady said that she had spoken to the estate agent regarding the house, I am presuming the estate agent told her it was under offer, however she came anyway and my 77 year old mum let her in for a look. The lady said she would come back with her husband, I was furious, what do I do about that as I am not there all the time. I mean, it could be anybody. The amount of people who have been at the door asking about the house is unbelievable, offering them more money, but my parent's are happy with the offer they have received.

Oooh that's not good. Can you just explain to your mum (and dad) that now it is classed as 'sold' that they do not let anyone else in. Is there a chain on the door so she can open the door with it on and feel safe enough to say no.

I'm pleased nothing untoward happened but like you say - you never know.

Thanks for that papermoney, I will have a word with the pair of them, they are a pair of stubborn so and so's and they don't like interference from me. Hopefully, by tomorrow it will be sorted. The thought of strangers in a house which has been our family home for 33 years does not go down too well with me or my brother, however they are very fit and independent parents and I also think they will be glad to see it over and done with.

Sounds like my parents, honestly they think they are all grown up and know what they are doing:rotfl:

  • It may be worth asking if you can get a 'sold' sign erected, it may stop people from knocking at the door.
