You're definitely not a pain in the neck! If only more people had such caring sons and daughters like you
I think they're very lucky
I know you said your dad would be furious if he wasn't there when the survey was being done, but you could get around this. There's such a thing as a 'drive-by' survey these days. Admittedly it wouldn't be used in this case but it's not something your dad would be aware of. Surveyors stop the car once they've identified the correct property, have a look at the front of it (they use binoculars for the roof, guttering and chimney), take a photo and make out their report. It's one way of making sure things go smoothly as far as your dad's concerned

Well, I'm no economist - but just an engineer - and the only difference I see since Lab have come in government is house prices have gone through the roof - its got to be somebody's fault for triggering all this - house on my road in 1989 sold for £20k - now they are selling for over £150k!!! That's a massive 650% increase!!!!!
What annoys me is that the goverment HAS benefitted from this massively - infact they took advantage - with all sorts of stamp duty to inheritance taxes to name but a few of the ways they've benefitted at the expense of general public.
And of course the cash goes in the government's back pocket, not into paying for stuff...

Thanks again to everyone. I have had a little success in that the surveyor is coming tomorrow morning between 10am and 12 noon, my dad is golfing so it will just be me and my mum who is not such a worrier. So success. I will let you know how it goes. Also, I was speaking to the buyer's aunt today and she was telling me that her niece is over the moon about getting the house so I don't feel so bad.0

I suppose I will have a little idea of what is going on by the length of time the surveyor takes and what he looks at. Oh god I hope it goes alright.0

Well surveyor came today, two of them, asked if they wanted tea, said they were in a hurry. One went about taking notes, checked the electric meter box and the other one put a thingy on the wall a couple of times. Went upstairs and I don't really know what they did except I do know they were not in the attic. Water boiler is in a fittted wardrobe but do not know if they looked at that, also shower pipe in another fitted wardrobe and do not know if they looked at that. Went out back door to bottom of garden and looked at roof, then came in said goodbye. Time taken 10 minutes. Before going into their car, went across the road and looked at the roof. That was that, now we'll just wait and see what happens.0

thats a valuation survey. they just want to make sure the house is worth what the buyer has siad they want to pay for it. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
A lot of money for 10mins work, am I in the wrong job?

The thingy they put on the wall is a protimeter - it checks for damp. All surveyors use these in all properties for all types of survey. Did it make any noise?
From what you have said, it seems quite straightforward.
You should know in a couple of weeks - until then, just try to forget about it
