  • Why are you using the word NIMBYS in this instance, it doesn't make sense. NIMBYS is "Not In My Back Yard", so unless your neightbours compained about the way you export energy to the national grid, then clearly the word doesn't apply.

I'd suggest you substitute the word "The Fuel impoverished".

Does it matter? There are those which will never be happy.

There is a lot I dislike about about the way the country is run especially the very high taxes in the country yet not much to show for it. Go moan at the City cos that's where a lot of our money has disapeared to...

My solution... just go earn some more cash :)

    Cheers
  • It matters to those who are struggling to pay their energy bills, choosing whether to eat or heat. I guess it doesn't matter to those people who have subsidized energy bills via PV FITS.

My solution... reduce everyone's fuel bills by cancelling the FITs payment.

    Cheers.

The cost of paying for the renewables incentive scheme has been set in advance. Were I stupid enough to stop claiming my FITs that would not reduce the electricity bills of a single 'poor' person by one penny.

The proposed 'solution' would simply ensure that nobody ever again invested in any government sposored scheme. I'm not quite sure how that might benefit 'the poor' nor indeed anyone else (apart from the teams of lawyers offering to recoup payments for breach of contract).

FITs I suspect is a small part of a much bigger issue...

Anyway look on the plus side. The cost of my install, £10kish, went into the local economy helping to create/sustain jobs etc. Yes the FIT in my case lasts 25 years but I am responisible for the system and it's maintenance. Already a panel was smashed in storm force winds... ok so insurance paid for replacement but again that money went back into the local economy. So my insurance premium rose which I expected. At the end of the day £10k is lot of cash to take a punt on with the hopeless govts. we have so I'll make best use of it.

Besides those who are often in difficult situations get financial help to which I'm not entitled. Swings in roundabouts...

    Cheers

You could all at least stop using devices that divert energy that would go to the national grid into water tanks, despite part of the FIT being given to you for energy exportation. Talk about having your cake and eating it.

"Export tariff: you will get a further 4.64p/kWh from your energy supplier for each unit you export back to the electricity grid, so you can sell any electricity you generate but don't use yourself. This rate is the same for all technologies. At some stage smart meters will be installed to measure what you export, but until then it is estimated as being 50% of the electricity you generate"

I'm responsible for my own roof. I had it re-roofed and insulated at the same time at a cost of £10k. I put £10k into the local economy and yet I didn't ask poorer people to subsidize me to the point where having my roof done actually paid me money!

Swings and roundabout... oh hold on, you gain on the swings and on the roundabouts. It's the poorer members of society who couldn't afford the upfront investment for PV (or who don't own their homes) who are satout side the park watching you merrily play on the swings and roundabouts....

My export rate has just increased to 3.3p. The figure above must be for the newer FIT scheme. I pay 9.45p to import energy so better use what I generate. Also it is less wear on the heat pump. Ahh yes the heat pump... Bought on the promise of an RHI grant to be 'green' but has never materialised. So from what I glean above I should not buy a device so PV can heat my hot water until a smart meter arrives? In that case I'll be waiting endless years for one...

You could stop using the devices, your right. But do you really believe thats going to bring down the price poor people pay for their leccy?

    I very much doubt it

My heart bleeds for you having to pay for your own heating system. Don't you buy anything that's not been subsidized by the poor?

Is receiving the FIT for energy you're not exporting any different from receiving income support and working? I dare say that people defrauding the benefit system use the same sort of logic - that their little bit of income wouldn't make a difference, so they might as well take it.
