Congratulations on starting your own blog. I love your picture too :D.
  • Thanks Daisy! Will hopefully update my blog over weekend when I have more time.

Inspired by Daisy's 'pots' system, I have been playing with our One Account on-line tools and have split our mortgage, savings and current account into components. These aren't physical splits, merely 'e-Accounts' that help you plan and see different elements of your money. I have created two savings accounts, one holding a fixed figure for our son (its a mix of money given to him over time from relatives), one is our savings.

The latter was taken as direct advice from the superb Richest Man In Babylon book which should be mandatory reading for school children before they leave. It is the simple first lesson of Pay Yourself, so each week I am adding to this pot 10% of my wages. The 'e-Mortgage' plan represents our target date of 2020 and provides figures and tools and gives a better guide to where we are and what we need to be putting in the account to keep on track. It'll be tight but it is very do-able!

Just started the Millionaire Next Door. Richest Man in Babylon is still better so far!

I kinda regretted TMND. On the plus side, it will tell you to stop saving for your son :rotfl:

    I know, great isn't it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

  • I have stopped reading it for a bit, I wanted to catch up on another book I had started. TMND is getting a bit repetitive and not really making many points of interest to those outside of the study field so far, i.e. the ethnic backgrounds of participants in the their surveys, etc.

Nor sure why it would suggest not saving? Or did you mean not giving out large inheritances, which is a different thing? I am only saving for my son so he has a head start as an adult at 18, I don't plan on leaving much behind when I turn my toes up!!

You're right Dave, what it's basically saying is don't keep them, don't keep bailing them out but fund their education/start up business.

Don't give them any money is catchier though :rotfl:

Living room windows sealed SD - thanks very much for all the tips

The only messy bits were the odd corner where three bits of wood met, but these tended to be the ones with the biggest cracks anyway :rotfl:

Sorry I forgot to tip you about that.......draw your beads into the corners, make sure you finger VERY wet and smooth away from the corner. As long as you keep wetting your finger you can smooth these out nicely.

Glad they are sealed now....all prepped for the Storm of The Century then?!

We are kind of on the edge of the worst for the big storm according to the maps.
Will go out tomorrow and batten everything down. Not sure our fence will last though - the fence post has rotted and needs replacing. Another job on DHs list for when he gets time!
Will have a read of your blog once the little ones are in bed :)

  • Thanks. Will update soon. I am sure we will get some bad weather, but since the Storm of '87, we do seem to hit the panic button early. I am sure they don't want to get caught again so have gone the other way of predicting the end of the world just in case. I bet/hope its a damp squib.
