Sounds a nice simple system. Like it.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • Still finding glitches on the Virgin One site, what a disaster area it has become. Okay for getting balance and overall progress, but the 'plans' I had set up and the 'categories' system for allocating finances to different pots, is all over the place. I pay into three different accounts with the same company and since the site has come back, it doesn't see the difference in the references, so consequently they are all labelled the same! Aarrggh.

Thankfully we are not using the account in such detail anymore, but it's terribly poor service. Seems the 'long term commitment' that all mortgage companies rattle on about is only a one way long term commitment. They don't seem to have to honour any of the stuff they tell you before you sign up!

Anyway, we are plodding along, the balance is still reducing although it might hiccup this week as half term reduces my wife's earnings and I am home sick at the moment with a nasty virus, so couple of lost day's pay.....

Good news is I have some jobs (extra) lined up for the end of the month and have been making headway with eBay sales, so might off-set some of the loss of income.

Really focussed now on just getting rid of this damn mortgage as not having to pay it every month really does open another world of opportunities for us......got to keep going in the meantime!
  • Well eight months between posts, I'm a regular huh?! We've been plodding along but I have to say nor really concentrating on the mortgage although not ignoring it either. We've maintained a higher income than outgoings which is good, but not enough to overpay very much.

However, changes at work are making my job less than tolerable and the desire to pay off the albatross and free us from the need for full time work, has become more urgent. So here we are again! So this week is a re-visit to our budget and working out increasing income but more importantly reducing outgoings. We have to do this!

Nice to see you posting again :). Like you, I am trying to reduce monthly outgoings as much as possible.

My new job is only a temp position so going from a full-time perm job to a temp job is a little crazy, but something I had to do to change career. Hope things gets better at work for you.
