Hi everyone. Just a short note to say goodbye, I am giving this diary up for good. Essentially I think we are doing all we can and at the end of the day all we can do is work and hope that we earn enough that we can clear the god damn mortgage eventually. But..
...to be honest I am tired of living in spreadsheets, counting every last penny, cutting coupons, filling out endless surveys for pennies, eating crappy own brand foods, living like monks and really only slowly crawling the balance down. Any hike in interest rates will wipe all of this effort out anyway. I think in the end the whole game is weighted to ensure that you pretty much stay in your station in life and without drastic life-style changes / luck you stay there. Its boring and not what most people want to hear, but really I bet we are not much better off than our parents when all's said an done.
Anyway, enough of the philosophy and bull. The loyalty cards are in the bin, the spreadsheet is deleted and the plans shredded. Overtime can whistle, hours spent 'researching' the next 5p saving or where best to buy insurance can be spent doing something fun. No more driving around to find cheap petrol, no more point collecting to end up with 2-litres of coke at half price and money off something we dont even use. Stuff money, it only brings different levels of misery.
I wish everyone well with their endeavours especially SD, ED, HD&K et al. Take care, keep well and press on by all means, but stop and smell the flowers once in a while - there is more to life than stinking money and buying an over-valued pile of bricks no matter where you are.

Take care Dave, may life bring you only the best :beer:0

Look after yourself SD, enjoy life and be kind to yourself.
Be nice to hear from you so please don't leave us completely.
Unfortunately I am definitely here till the bitter end, as even when we became briefly mf a few years ago, I still enjoyed the chase of saving money.. I think for me its the journey not the destination.
Love and BW

Squirrel xPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Good luck SD, you've at the very least given yourself greater self awareness of what is important to you :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
