How about a 50/50 approach? Granted it will take you longer to pay off the mortgage, but at least you will have more fun along the way.

Is downsizing a real option? Because if it is, then I would say go for it. You will probably find you enjoy your job a lot more when you know you could tell them to stuff it0 -
Well we have had a heart to heart talk this weekend and looked at our various options for work, living, houses, moving, staying, and businesses (I had been offered a shop based one!).
IN the end after much laying out of 'what ifs' and maybes, we have decided to focus on one thing, the mortgage. I reckon I can just about keep my head down and nose clean for three years or so biting my tongue and biding my time, caning the overtime, the extras, the self-employment, the bootfairs, the eBaying, coupon cutting, points collecting and really try and spank the mortgage.
We have been living day to day of my wife's money and mine pays the bills and the mortgage. We want to try and generate enough to pay the bills and live of extra earnings to ALL of my money can just got to the mortgage and clear it. If, and its a massive IF, we could in theory pay off 90% of the remaining balance in three years.
If we can do this then all the rest doesn't matter because without the mortgage we don't really need to earn very much at all and we can pick and choose then where we live, where we work and what we earn. Big question is if we can stomach the three year slog and if the gods don't fart in our faces in the meantime.......!
We have one last big expense to get through, our flat roof on the garage had leaked and as I store things there including the car we need if fixed. We got a good deal though as we are going in with our neighbours (the garages adjoin) and as a bonus the guy is re-roofing the porch as well pretty much for free so two major jobs done very reasonably and I dont have to do them!
The fun starts end of this month so stay tuned.....0 -

Please ignore these ten characters or more they are here to lengthen the message to an acceptable length so that the daft programming is happy that I am not some sort of spammer. Oh damn. Now I have gone way over the minimum ten characters and this has made this kind of redundant now. Er.....0 -
Sounds like an exciting decision you have made there. Looking forward to seeing your progress on getting your mortgage repaid

Good luck SD, doing pretty much the same, my wages to morgage, Dave's bills and living. Problem is the feeling of being perpetually skint, so occasional blow outs and holiday as that's too big of a compromise for Dave. We have 3 mortgages policies, 2 will finish mid next year so will provide a bit of breathing space and money can be saved whilst finishing morgage number 3. Can't wait;)Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!

Hi sd, just popping in to wish you a belated happy new year and best of luck hammering the mortgage in the next 3 years, I think you may be surprised how quickly it flies byMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

THanks SD, HD+NG.
It is going to be very tough I think, but we'll see how the year pans out.
Last night we sat and looked at the 'how to' side of things. We decided that I would concentrate on earning as much as I can with overtime, extra work and the like and also develop some hobby selling into a more committed quasi-business if possible.
My wife decided that she would minimise the spend, clip the coupons and also add in the little earners (thanks SD) with surveys, cashback sites etc. This should play to each of our strengths.
Tonight we are going to break this down further into actual goals (been reading about goal setting and LOA etc so going to give this a try).0 -
Hello
I love the idea of hobbyturnedquasibusiness.
I also think three years will go in a flash.0
