I can sympathise with the OP for being angry. But it seems the security guard made a mistake, and maybe didn't go about aplogising in the right way.

You also have to consider that neither the security guard, or the manager would have known anything about either yours or your son's disabilities. And that he wouldn't have realised that the reason for your raised voice was due to your panic attack.

So I would personally put it down to an unfortunate incident, caused by a misunderstanding, and try not to stress yourself about it (as this won't help your health at all).

It is horrible to be accused of something and as a mother you wanted to defend your son which you did.

It would be best to forget about it now and put it in the past.

If your son is upset in the future maybe you can make a joke of it somehow to lighten the mood and say something like "that security guard must need his eyes testing" for example so your son knows that you're on his side and other people make mistakes.

I get upset about injustices as well, it can fester inside and burn me up but in the end I'm only hurting myself.

No offence, but you've posted for advice on a public forum. You've been given advice but don't seem to like what people say so call them "arrogant".

If you don't like the advice given, then please feel free to log out.

Personally I think you were in the wrong. I don't believe for a second that a security guard suspected your son of shoplifting and merely sauntered over and popped the evidence in a bin, and walked off. Most, if not all, supermarkets have a zero tolerance on shoplifting. If you're son had robbed a pie, the Police would have been placing him in a cell until they could review CCTV footage.

So in summary the guard made an off hand comment, kindly put your sons litter in the bin and left you in peace.

You in turn follow him, start shouting at him and the manager, continue when asked to stop.

The guard is a !!!!!! and you are melodramatic.

    Now my questions are....
    1) what is the law regarding accusing people Perfectly fine for person A to accuse Person B of being a numpty
    2) did the security guard break the law What law exactly ? The " do not falsly accuse people " law
    3) was the manager intimidating me by telling me to lower my voice and trying to get the upper hand because it felt like it No he was trying to calm you down to then speak calmly and clearly, no 1 likes being shouted at plus you could take things too far and say stuff that wasn't neccessary
    4) who do i write to and complain Why not just let it go which is what you should have done rather than go after the guard as you did. Focus on yourself and your son.
    5) should i take this to the newspapers? For what pupose ?
    6) a friend suggested I should get a lawyer ....what do you think?

Im surprised the ethnicity of the security guard was mentioned.
Not had 1 these shoplifting threads for a while now.
