Things feel a little bit out of control at the moment, I seem to be haemorrhaging money and just so full of inertia and tired all the time. I'm not exactly productive at work and just want to go to bed when I get home. I've really lost my focus and much as I know I'd feel so much better if I just tidied up and sorted through some paperwork, I just cant motivate myself to do it.

Another one identifying with this feeling since the New Year began :o

As mentioned on Cinny's diary, that was where the Epic To Do List came from.

I mentioned last week on here googling procrastination? Well a couple of the bits I read were quite interesting.

One that was we never procrastinate over brushing our teeth - because it's such an ingrained habit we do it without thinking. So, if we make the other things we want to do a habit then they'll become one too.

The other one was that it takes 15 minutes to engage with something. Therefore if we can make ourselves start and get past that point then we will likely finish the task.

Not sure if that will help you but it helped me a bit. I got things on my list done over the weekend, I went for lots of long dog walks in the sunshine and cleared my head and was on time for work this morning. Feeling more positive for it!

Hope all is ok with your poorly cat, lots of positive thoughts being sent your way x

Hugs Tete for your dear poorly cat :( I hope that she gets better after her short stay at the vet's.

I hear you on the teaching applications. It's not really fair to make the criteria so open if they're really looking for something more. Still, you never know. And there's always next year at the very worst.

I don't think it's bad to chill out in the evening after work. But if you know you'll feel righteous after doing some paperwork you should go for it!!!

I was reading up on your blog, you've been doing some fab stuff lately. I especially loved reading all about New York. I was salivating at the pictures :)

  • Aww thanks for the cheerleader Lara! Yeah I love looking back at the NY posts actually, I really want to go back!

Beccie I'm loving that 15-minute advice, have already put it into practice a bit this morning. It's true that most things you procrastinate for weeks over could easily be done in the space of 15 mins, we're mad. As for brushing your teeth - I don't procrastinate over doing it, but I procrastinate WHILST doing it - wander about trying to multi-task by packing my handbag for work or something. All it achieves is that it takes twice as long to brush my teeth and I drip toothpaste foam on my handbag :o

Mavis update- we picked her up at 5.30 last night, she was very woozy with a little bald belly. Expected her to jus curl up and go to sleep until the anaesthetic wore off but she seemed to be fighting it, wouldn't go to sleep, eat of drink :( I left her just lying on the landing last night and when I woke up she'd gone. I found her curled up in the litter tray  it's one of those ones with a 'roof' so I think she must have gone in and not been able to turn and get out, or was too disoriented to do so. No idea how long she'd been there. I was expecting her to be OK this morning but she's much the same as last night, except now she's sort of foaming at the mouth/drooling a lot. I'm back at work today but Dad's taking her to the vets this morning for me (she was due in for a post-op check up anyway) - I'm hoping they might pop her on a drip again as she's basically not eaten or drunk anything since Sunday morning (although she was on a drip yesterday). I'm so worried about her, she's just such an unhappy little thing at the moment :(:(

Prognosis is that, although it may reoccur, pancreatitis isn't an ongoing thing so it should be a one-off bout of treatment. Running total so far is £250  but she is absolutely worth it :heartpuls (Before anyone asks, I don't have them insured, I think it's a massive con and prefer to keep the money in savings in my own bank.)

Aww, poor poorly Mavis :( Glad the vet managed to diagnose and treat so swiftly, but it's so horrible when they can't tell you how they're feeling.

Hope she's back to her normal self soon :) Cats are remarkably resilient!

Did I tell you that my mum's cat had a stroke and made a miraculous recovery? I think I did, but they were so worried and the vet wasn't that optimistic and my dad had actually found a spot to dig a hole in the garden :( But beloved Barney is right as rain now :D

Hm, pet insurance is a tricky one. I do have it, but never had to use it (thank God/touch wood) nor have I read through the entire policy so I suspect the insurance company would manage to wriggle out of paying if I were to need it. Cynical?

And also, you can't put a price on your kitties :D

Absolutely. If you were that bothered about how much pets were going to cost you (in monetary and heartache terms I guess) then you wouldn't have them at all and that would be awful! :D Although I guess not everyone is as nutty an animal lover as me!

My granny had insurance for her dog for about 8 years - he got arthritis in his hip and it was good at first because they paid out but after about a year their policy changed and they wouldn't pay for his ongoing treatment anymore. She also had to pay an 'excess' on some things, insurance in general seems a bit of a swindle to me, it's always a massive hassle claiming on it. When I first got my cats it was the fact that I had two of them that decided me - it was costing me double to insure them but what are the chances of them both needing treatment at the same time? Pretty low. Even needing any treatment at all as they're house cats. A quick tot-up and I would have spent £1200 on insurance by now so I can hardly complain about £350ish can I?

Lovely to hear about Barney! My previous cat died of a stroke so it's nice to know that they aren't always fatal (well, he didn't die OF it but it wouldn't have been very kind to let him struggle on the way he was, and he was 17 at the time so possibly worse affected?) :(

Dad and Mavis are waiting to be sen now. I'm in knots :(:(

Oh Tete, fingers crossed for Mavis and sending her lots of purry get well thoughts :( Mine are always restless after anaesthetic as well and wander about miaowing rather than sleep it off. I can't remember of I posted elsewhere but our cat Munch was taken ill last year, kept being sick and was very listless, when we got him to the out of hours vet he could hardly stand. They kept him in on a drip over two nights with suspected diabetes but his tests came back clear and he's been absolutely fine since. They have no idea what it was. As Poddle says, cats are resilient as long as they get treated quickly, so hopefully Mavis will be back to normal soon. How old is she?

We are exactly the same re insurance, ours cost over £1000 as it was the emergency vets  but we have three so, like you say, over the years and taking excesses into account we're still better off.

Poor Mavis :( I hope she's okay! Any news? Pippin had an op once and was just the same afterwards, so hopefully it's just general cat stubbornness than anything to be too worried about? Keeping my fingers crossed for you both!

I'm the other side with insurance but Ryder is a big dog, and a small operation on him costs the world just because of his size. We've paid £83 ish in insurance, and been covered for a £500ish series of ops etc. However, if he was a smaller dog, we'd self insure him.
  • Thanks for your messages girls :kisses3: Lovely to hear all the happy stories too.

I've spoken to the vet and Dad - she was quite dehydrated (knew she would be with all the drooling and not drinking anything) and also quite cold - I thought she was too warm as she'd been sitting by the draughty door, feel awful now that I didn't make more of an effort to keep her warm :( Anyway, she's gone off with a hot water bottle, to go on a drip again - possibly overnight depending on how she is. She's 9 Shrimpy so pretty much middle-aged. Dad said they didn't seem overly concerned which is a relief but I'm quite concerned about the cost of an overnight stay - bet it's more than I paid for that posh hotel last weekend!

Anyway I feel a bit more chipper now and feel like I can concentrate on some work this aft. Really need to kick myself up the bum not to leave things til the last minute all the time, because if you do that you're plucked if you have to be off work unexpectedly like yesterday.

Eep Cinny, yeah I bet they have to use loads of meds on Ryder with him being so big. On that note it's a good job it's Mavis and not Sally, the chubster.
