Saving the backup (xml file) to disk allows you to run the same backup at a later date without setting it up again. Select image this disk. Save it to an external USB disk if you have one, to DVDs if you have a load of blanks or to the drive.

Take a second image after you've uninstalled the unwanted programs.

Macrium has just crashed the pc

So bad task manager wouldnt work nor would restart i had to switch it off at the mains!

How important is this bit? I have user acer back up before ok-can i do this instead?

It's not vital, Macrium Reflect just makes it easier to turn back the clock in future.

Hi again, does this list look better? Cooliris is a touchscreen app I want to keep, fooz kids is a controlled kids browser type thing and the games left are ones they like.

The things in red- what is winlocker for please? And Nero-if I remove this will I not be able to burn cds/dvds?

MyWinLocker is encryption software that locks your private files using the most secured AES encryption technology. This may be removed if you don't use it.

Nero is a suit of programs for working with/burning DVDs. You could remove it and use ImgBurn instead, which is much better IMHO

Great thanks for that figment, I will probably not use winlocker so I can remove that, I will leave nero as it is for now i dont often burn cds but its good to know the option is there.

Much better. I've never seen so much crud pre-installed on a computer before!

I'm not sure what these three are, but don't think any of them are mission critical. You should be able to run them from the Start > All Programs list to find out.

Bear in mind that if you are unable to create an image using Macrium Reflect, all of those programs you've removed will return should you have the misfortune to need another factory reset. (Although I have a feeling the slowing down you experienced may well have been Windows Update downloading stuff in the background.)

Windows 7 can burn CDs without using any 3rd party software. You can get rid of Nero.
