Lane discipline.

I did once see a police car flash and indicate left behind a middle lane hogger to make them move over.
I don't see a problem if there is slow-moving traffic up ahead and you stay in the middle lane a bit longer. It is those with no awareness that is the problem. I did see a minicab stay in lane 3 (of 4) for miles around the M25. In this case, overtaking in lane 1 felt completely safe.Je suis sabot...0 -
Absolute Rubbish, the motorways I usually use are fairly choco, and Im just following a "Convoy" in the middle lane doing 70 (yes my speedo is accurate) It would achieve nothing to keep swerving into the slow lane and out again within a few Minuits, Im just doing g what 60% of other drivers are doing. You should move into the inside lane so you're not driving carelessly and inconsiderately.
The middle lane is an overtaking lane, just like the third lane.
You've highlighted exactly what is wrong with UK road safety - people think that rigorously sticking to an arbitrary speed limit is more important that observation and lane discipline.
Middle lane hogging is lazy and selfish.0 -

Aha, it's the "I'm just a silly sheep who does what everyone else does" argument!Je suis Charlie.0 -

Any ideas why the Motorways are choco when there's a full middle and outer lane and the inside lane is basically empty except for lorries?0 -
Fastest way round the west section of the M25? Wagon speed round the inside lane. I do it a hell of a lot.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Well, others have made my point. The remaining 40% of us will think about our driving and continue to complain about the lemming mentality of those that don't.0 -
As many as 40% - I thought is was just me and you?
Think I saw you the other day. We were in our own personal lane one of the M1 going past St Albans. Everyone else was in lane 3.

There are actually 2 (or more for certain stretches of motorway) overtaking lanes and you are hogging one of them.
All lanes except the left hand lane are overtaking lanes.
So what are you doing being behind the person "hogging" the lane.
You are not overtaking so you should be on the inside lane.0 -
This attitude of I'm doing my speed in the 'middle' lane also causes problems for those with trailers etc. 55mph in the middle lane is such a pain when you are towing, speed limited to 60mph, and banned from lane 3. Nearside lane is ever so attractive then ...
Too many people live in their own little bubble - this country is more and more about "me, me, me' and not being nice to others.0
