Lane discipline.

As the motorways we tend to use most are the M42, M5 & M6, returning to the inside lane at every opportunity would soon result in being sandwiched between two wagons with no chance of moving to the middle lane
No-one has an issue with remaining on the middle lane if there's another truck within a few seconds. Most drivers who complain about the hogs would do the same. But when that few seconds becomes 30, or more, your argument goes out the window. There's only a problem because there are other middle-lane drivers who won't give an inch to those driving correctly. It's a vicious cycle a lot of the time and that's one good reason for the police giving the middle lane drivers a good hiding from time to time.sillygoose wrote: »The middle lane hoggers defences falls down big style on the M6 Toll when tootling along in the inside lane I often come up on a MLH when ALL 3 lanes ahead are deserted.. what is going on in this ones head? It then leaves me the annoying choice of illegal undertaking or going 1-2-3-2-1 just to carry on my way.
Indeed -- but then of course you come up against the old chestnut of "there's no-one else on the road, no harm done, just pass me and be on your way". Bringing into sharp focus the selfish nature of these morons.
The worst ones are on 4 lane motorways (and even a few 5-laners now). They'll sit in lane 3 (or 4), mandating that the driver who is following the rules of the road to the letter has to make a 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 maneouvre just to stay within the law. It's pathetic -- they should be shot, all of them :mad:0 -

Undertaking is not illegal, though it is not advised in this country, for some reason. It is perfectly commonplace in the US where they have a much more sensible attitude. I do it quite often because I keep coming across middle lane hoggers and, increasingly these days, lane 3 hoggers.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
Used to drive over to France quite often, via Dartford and Dover, In the early morning would set cruise control to 75mph as very little traffic and stay in lh lane. There used to be so many morons in the centre lane of a 3 lane motorway, doing 65, that made me change from 1 to 3 that I lost count. Having to keep kicking down a 3ltr Supra turbo, to avoid the boy racers in their BMW's in the outside lane was a pain. Lane discipline in the UK is none existant.
In contrast, we set cruise control @ 130 mph on a run to the south of France (many years ago) and there were no problems with lane control by other drivers. As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
I almost ploughed in to the back of a lorry (with my wife and two small daughters in the car) whilst trying to prove a stupid point to a middle lane hogger.

I just pass them on the left. Not undertaking as i dont pull into the NS, Then undertake then pull back out. I stay on the inside for some distance.
I do give them the finger as i pass though
One exception.. 1am on the M42, 2 chav mobiles with blue LED's & spoilers big enough to half its top speed. They get the lights flashing and left indictor treatment. Never seen it work like that before. They moved over almost instantly.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If im doing 70, why should I move to the inside lane where I will soon need to overtake slower vehicles so will be continually changing lanes, dangerous/extra tyre wear. Theirs an overtaking lane if you want to break the law or overtake me.
Whats the problem?
You could give the same viewpoint if you were hogging the overtaking lane then.
People have been prosecuted for sitting in the overtaking lane at 70 m.p.h. So it is possible, though un-likely to be prosecuted for hogging lane two.0 -

Aaarrgghh!!!
ALL the lanes are overtaking lanes EXCEPT the left-most under normal circumstances!
WHY can't people get this into their heads?0
