Hello :hello:
lil_me thanks for noticing that!!!, when working out my target I've taken into account the fact that March was a five week month and I've also taken into account things that I brought last month that I shouldn't be buying this month ie easter eggs, tupperware and a huge pack of loo roll.
I normally spend £50 per week on groceries, toiletries and cleaning products so in effect this is not a huge drop. As this is my first challenge I wanted an easy target so £20 off my normal spend seemed achievable.
I'm hoping to come in either on target or just under.......... but lets see its early days yet lol :rotfl:
Again good luck to everyone doing the challenge and I hope that everyone achieves their targets.

I am in again. Just made March's target (again by the skin of my teeth). Dont think this house selling thing is helping as last 2 months now I have run freezers down and not stock-piled my usual batch cooking (turned off chest freezer so just fridge/freezer). I have already done my main tesco shop (its the only choice I have as dont drive and work weekends when DH could take me to Asda but that is 30 miles away!). Also did a trip to local somerfield (£20 later!!!), also did trip to butchers.
So I think its £173.00 spent so far from my £350 budget. Lots of the basics bought washing powder, loo rolls, toothpaste etc. And now have freezer full of meat so am hopefull!0 -
I'm in again, too. After overspending by £30 in February, March was sooo much better: overspent by 8 pence :cheesy:
so I'll try again with £200 and intend to stay under! He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

I'm including nappies.. don't know whether it is the right thing to do or not. BTW - have you tried Lidl's nappies? I find them just as good for during the day, but confess to wimping out for the nighttime and rely on huggies then...Is it home time yet?0 -

Hi newmrslockwood and happyathome,
If it suits you to include nappies then include them. The great thing about the grocery challenge is that it's a personal challenge and everyones needs and expenses will be different. The aim is to bring your total amount spending amount down to what you are comfortable with. Good luck with yours!

I was confused last month when I tried to total because of failing to keep OH in check - he keeps wandering in with bags of "cheap things" he's picked up. It is really sweet of him to think about the shopping, but it plays havoc with the meal plans. I worked out what I spend, so I'm going to start with that. So my goal is to reduce my expenditure first and simply use what randomly appears in the fridge as a bonus! Started with a trip to the new Lidl store in Oxford today and spent significantly less than what I would have spent in Asda. :j
I also have to work on breaking my diet coke habit...No excuses this month. :rotfl:

Hi,
I haven't joined in for a couple of months and have let things slip a bit. This month I have had my gran and sister staying with me for 10 days  and they have eaten me out of house and home. I have also wanted to be the hostess with the mostest so have bought tons and spent lots.
So this month I'm back on the wagon and hope to spend no more than £100 on groceries and cleaning stuff/toiletries.
Easter eggs have been bought already and I have no big plans for April so hopefully I'll be able to stick to it!
Am going to try to use up whats left over from the hungry hoards (not much!) this week and not go shopping until Thursday/Friday.
Does anyone know if supermarkets (Tesco) will be open on Good Friday?
Thanks and good luck to everyone

LMS I must admit my first ever month I did a complete cold turkey. Crazy as it seems I started in December. From the previous year I halved what I had spent, then knocked another £100 off (which was a horrific amount considering we were out for dinner Xmas day etc)and aimed for that, came in just under target, but it worked well. I am sure you will manage it. It was after a few months I slipped
but back on wagon now and determined! I used to spend easily over £600 a month, £800+ some months and the amount I wasted was unreal!
One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0
