My Microsoft Money has stopped getting prices online

Hi pmw39 - did the stock symbol change fix the updates for you ?
My stock symbols seem to be ok eg Sage is SGE in MSMoney and when I do a Find-symbol it finds the latest price (346.1) on the MSN-money website; however my MSMoney still has a price of 352 from 01-july.0 -
Given up here as well. I gave up fiddling around with stock symbols and decided to spend the afternoon setting up my portfolio on Trustnet. It does at least restore some real time information and it should make manual updating of prices on MSMoney easier. Fingers-crossed that this is just a temporary hiccup. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Let's face it folks, price updating is now broken. We'd all better start thinking about Plan B.
My Plan B? I'm going to update manually once a week - a tedious task as I have over a hundred prices to update. I have looked at alternatives such as Bank Tree, but to me, the loss of automatic updating isn't a big enough incentive to move to a completely different software package. The other part of my plan B involves Sharescope - http://www.sharescope.co.uk/index.php
I'm a subscriber and am likely to remain so. It allows DDE linking to external programs like MS Excel, so I can get near real time updates in a spreadsheet.0 -
Another option
http : //code.google.com/p/hle-ofx-quotes/
Needs a bit of work to set up, but appears to work ok for me.
(had to leave spaces around the colon as it wouldn't allow me to post a link)0 -
It won't allow me to post a link but another fix is to change registry
These are the steps:
1. Close Money and then click Start - Run
2. Type 'regedit' (without the quotes) <enter> this opens the registry editor
3. When the registry editor opens, make sure you are at the very top of the registry entries and click on 'Computer' on the top left hand side
4. Type Ctrl-F (or click Edit - Find)
5. Type 'QuoteServerURL' (no quotes) <enter>
6. After a short wait it should find a registry entry called 'URL'
7. Right click on 'URL' and select Modify
8. Make a note of what is there in case you want to change it back later. Then overtype it with the below:
'http : // data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll/' (without the quotes)
9. Click OK and then exit the registry editor
10. Restart Money and try to update stock prices again. You should be back in business!
Note: to be on the safe side, you can backup your Registry before making any changes. i.e after step 3, click File - Export - All. I didn't bother, but it's usually the recommended practice before editing registry keys.

You may be able to find this in the social microsoft forum perhaps using the string

BTW I had to change point 8 and introduce spaces after http and first colon to get it to accept post.0

I discovered this too. However, my registry entry was already correct, so I concluded that whatever has been done to stop us getting updates was not down to the registry having been modified.....0 -

Looks interesting, but when I downloaded the code - hle-ofx-quotes - my browser was giving me multiple warnings of dire consequences if I opened it, so I chickened out.0 -
I have come across jStock - free software.
You enter the stocks and shares you own and, at the click of a button, get the latest (Yahoo) data on price etc.

However I would obviously be prepared to pay for an updated Microsoft Money.0 -

You maybe right. I have not dared play with registry (windows7) - will have to read up on how to do it. But I did see a reference in one post later in thread which talked about two registries having to be modified.
There are a lot of uses affected and it has happened before, so one lives in hope ...0
