So...... Got my sticker about a month ago. It's stuck on the window which is about 2 inches above the letterbox. Clearly displayed. Yadda yadda yadda...

Can I just ask - have the Royal Mail delivery guys actually been instructed on what the sticker means?!

    Apparently not!

TWICE last week we had parcels delivered to our neighbour (thankfully the 'good' neighbour!!)

Defeats the purpose of having the sticker in the first place! :o

    probably not

Mine started to peel off the letterbox quite quickly, but put some sellotape over it a few weeks ago and it's been fine.

The scheme wasn't in operation last week, so Royal Mail should not have sent the packages to your neighbour anyway - sticker or no sticker!

You assume they were not in a trial area

I had a package given to my neighbour weeks ago, ironically the same day I got my opt-out sticker, requested the day I got the leaflet through the door.

My understanding is that Royal Mail got a three month extension to the trial in May (they had requested a six-month extension). Meaning the trial ended in August.

If there had been a six month extension (as requested) maybe we would have got a bit more notification of the scheme going Nationwide.
  • I would've assumed if the option wasn't available in certain areas, when the sticker was requested they should've said so! Or not sent the sticker. Or sent a note with the sticker to say 'yadda yadda available from Julember 2012' or something...

    EDIT:
    Don't assume... :o

Royal Mail made the stickers available in August before the launch date was even known by Ofcom or Royal Mail.

The Ofcom consultation only completed on 12 September and launch of the scheme on 1 October was only announced by Ofcom on 27 September.

Could I please ask a quick question?

When the postie leaves a parcel with the neighbour, isn't he or she supposed to drop a card through your door to let you know which neighbour your package has been left with?

The reason I ask is because last week a postie left my parcel with a neighbour but didn't actually leave me a card or any indication of this. It's a good job my neighbour is trustworthy and gave me the parcel, but I would have been none the wiser had he not done so.

It just makes me very cautious about sending parcels to friends and relatives (whose neighbours might not be so honest).
  • That is the general idea, yes. We didn't get cards either.

But yes our neighbour is a 'nice' neighbour too :D (that one is anyway...)
