We got a single sheet flyer the other day explaining this initiative, along with all the other junk mail bumpf the postie delivers, so it would be easy to miss stuck to all the other leaflets that just go straight in the paper recycling pile. I only saw it by chance.

you know you can opt out of that? :rotfl:

If you don't opt out do you get the chance to nominate which neighbours can accept post for you (as you can with some catalogue companies etc)?

I have some neighbours that I would not trust at all and would not want them to get their mitts on my deliveries.

If the answer is No then it has to be opt out

as in a big book of addresses for the postie to peruse at every door? no
common sense says to have that nominated neighbour marked on the packet or your door.
EG if out please leave with ........
The other fly in the ointment is you will find some senders marking packets "do not leave with neighbour"

I look forward to this coming as you can guarantee that on the rare time I'm out something too large for the letter-box will come which means a trip to collect it. I don't see it as a problem and am only too pleased to take parcels for others who are out and already do for other companies.

If you don't trust your neighbours firstly you should move :rotfl:But what I do is if I know I'm going to be out I put on the delivery to leave behind bushy plant near my front door so passers by can't see it, or if it's an expensive item I just get it delivered to work. I know some people do not have a fixed address for work (ie painters & decorators) but if you can't trust your neighbours this world is quickly becoming a sad one.
  • Would depend which neighbour :rotfl:

I'd also prefer an 'opt in' option if it was something I wanted, rather than having to 'opt out' :p

Sounds like a good idea to me...fortunately I have great neighbours and we always take parcels in for each other to avoid an unnecessary trip to the post office or re-arranging a courier delivery :)

I have opted out via the Mail Preference Service (as well as the Telephone Preference Service!) but I didn't know I could stop the postman delivering all the pizza leaflets, Virgin Media 'to the Occupier' envelopes, British Gas 'get a new boiler now now now' leaflets that usually land on the mat on a Monday morning in one big unaddressed handful.

Is there a facility on the Royal Mail website to stop this? If there is, how does the postman remember who not to deliver a handful to?

Remember though that if you opt out of mail to 'the occupier' then you could miss out on information from the council for instance on recycling details or other important things.
