  • I still cannot post a link on here but there is now a very weak article on the Mirror website.

It seems you have to be corporate to be heard!!!

First of all, thank you to all posters on this thread as it has been invaluable reading. I haven't managed to make it through all 124 pages but even the last 10 or so has given me so much information.

I have a slightly different scenario to most others on here in that I'm on a rolling 1 month SIM only deal with Orange and therefore wouldn't be able to claim that my broadband continues until the end of my contract, given that the termination date isn't a specific point in time. As such, I don't think I could go down the mis-sold route, although I did ask when I switched to SIM only if the broadband would continue so it certainly was a factor of me staying with Orange.

However, that doesn't get away from the fact that my broadband is set to be switched off... I've received two letters so far - the initial one stating my BB would be terminated on 12 November and the second one stating 27 November. Glad to see there is some factual continuity! The best bit is to quote the special offer code of FREE2012 to try and highlight that the saving of £7.50 (£2.50 off line rental for the first three months) is a great deal!

I was going to phone them tomorrow to ask for a MAC code, letting them know that I was about to start an iPhone 5 contract with them (not the greatest MSE phone but my 3GS is dying!) but their decision to stop the free broadband has swayed my decision. The speed of my line - I'm wondering if I have also been on the capped speed plan others have mentioned - is another factor, given the fact that I'm watching more TV through the internet (iPlayer, 4OD etc).

The worst part is I have been a customer since the days of Wanadoo and have actually had a lot of time for Orange as their customer service and general service for mobile and broadband, for me, has been good.

But the fact that I can get calls, line rental and faster broadband from other providers for cheaper is too much to argue against, now that the free BB is coming to an end.

In an ideal scenario, I would take up the line rental with Orange if they included the calls package for free, price-matched BT, Plusnet or TalkTalk's "pay up front" line rental and agreed to put me on a higher speed internet package.

I received a missed call today from 0800 294 4747 but was working when it came through.

Not sure whether to go good cop (loyal customer, wants to be retained) or bad cop (mis-sold, OFCOM, talk to your manager etc) on my call tomorrow!

    Hi,

If you are happy to move your landline to Orange then I would call the number on your missed call. I think that is the number for the `special` team and they are keen to achieve this.

I would play hard, tell them what you want ( others have been offered this & more ) start high - you can come down but cant go up - and I guess I would put the phone down and walk away if you are not offered a deal to suit you, as you have said there are other providers out there - may be not as cheap though !
Worst case scenario you can always call back.

Confirm what your actual cut off date is though, you have been given 2 dates, don`t presume it will be the later one as others have had service disconnected on the first !

    Dont do nothing.

    Good Luck

    Nobby.

Has anyone on the £5.11 deal had letter with a cut off date yet? I have not, the last email was on the 8/10/12 stating new T+C.

Shame Martin's team couldn't have written a header story about our fight then- as we currently have one of their biggest threads running!

Ive been so busy with work lately ive not had time to read everything but ive finally got a day off today and have just called the exec office and despite them initially saying they cant help me but they will get the special team to call me I my have a tiny bit of justice. I refused the call from the special team because they have already called me god knows how many times and when I refuse the landline move they cant help either. I have now been told the only option they are willing to do is to continue my free broadband until the end of my mobile contract. They say they are not releasing people from their mobile contracts and they are not offering compensation. Rubbish. I have asked for this to be emailed to me today and have the name of the lady I spoke to who I will chase up if I dont get the email. Im not happy with the solution, if it had come weeks ago then I would be but due to the time wasting and inconvenience they have caused the free broadband doesnt really cut it with me anymore. I would have preferred release from my contract but ill have to wait until next year for that. compensation would have been nice but looks like thats not happening either.

I just cant wait to be free of orange for good from next year, they are nothing but lying scumbags.

I too was offered 'free bb for life', on the sole proviso that I maintained an Orange mobile. What contrived mendacity that proved to be !

I too received a letter reneging on this promise, and threatening and bullying to disconnect the broadband unless I transferred my landline from BT to Orange.

I too spent many hours on the phone to Orange, from the entry level call centre staff who merely parrot "the computer says no", to the Executive Office, who are Orange's trench fodder. They simply didn't want to listen, and kept repeating that I could keep the 'free' broadband if I transferred my BT landline to them. Is it just me ? Am I being stupid ? Surely, nothing is 'free' if it is conditional upon buying something else. If my new car is 'free', providing I pay £15,000 for the immobiliser's code ........... is it really free ? It is all retail kidology, or, in lay parlance, amoral corruption.

Orange ignored my request for a Mac code, and this was only provided after 2 weeks, and following numerous calls to the Executive Office. I am now happily online with BT, and, on principle, I will never, ever, use Orange or EE again.

To all those who feel they have scored a victory by extending their 'free' bb until end of contract, I would ask you to stop and consider your positions. Orange do not deserve your custom for a day longer than it takes to migrate. They have put us all through a lot of stress, and countless hours of fatuous negotiation, over what was always our right through verbal contract. I will have no truck with any company who hide behind duplicitous and esoteric legalese in their written small print- and I have voted with my feet.

Orange have joined ranks with the bankers, the insurers, and the energy providers, in believing that they are the masters of the universe, and can employ their Faginesque wiles to steal meals of their customers' tables. Please, do what I did. Hold your head up, be principled, vote with your feet, and migrate to another broadband provider now. Show Orange that the customer is King.

What have Orange done to deserve your continued custom ? You haven't won a pardon ....... just a stay of execution.
