Orange 'Free' Broadband

For those of you considering tying yourself to home phone line rental with Orange because its a few quid cheaper than others -
Do you really trust a company who have removed our Livebox second lines, raised prices and are removing our free broadband (which formed part of my mobile contract - I know because I asked at each renewal) - do you really expect them not to raise prices during the year your signing up for! Saving a few quid at the start could prove costly at the end!
Enough is enough for me - moving on with my broadband once Orange end it, and awaiting justice over ending my mobile contract with over 13 months left on it, as Orange have altered the terms costing me more money.0 -
I was given the Orange executive offices Number by Ofcom.
0800 0790134

It is the phone number you are supposed to call, to lodge a complaint.
I was assured that someone from Broadband would respond within 48 hours.
Typical Orange Lie. [How many times have I heard from Orange that I would get a call back, and it never happens?]
They also gave me two email addresses, neither of which worked.......
First one they gave me was: executiveoffice@orange.co.uk
Rang back, second one they gave me was: executive.office@orange.co.uk
Neither worked. When I attempt to send an email with my complaint, I get undeliverable, system admin messages in my inbox.
When you call them make sure you get the reference number of the log he has to make. And send that to Ofcom along with your complaint.0 -

Every time I have renewed a contract I have specifically asked that it definitely included the broadband in the price and been told yes. I'm now in a position where my contract doesn't end until April 2013, to buy it out would be over £300 and come 16 Oct 2012 I'm not going to be getting broadband anymore unless I stump up for their home phone service. How on earth can this be right? Tried to speak to someone tonight but got fobbed off with the relevant department being shut. I'll be really interested to see if anyone finds out anything about the legality of this.
So don't buy broadband from Orange: they may re-define it and take away the 'broad' or the 'band'.
Come to think of it: don't buy anything from such an unethical company.0 -

Like everyone in this thread I too have received a letter from Orange stating that my free BB will cease on 19 October unless I take their line rental. I have been a customer since Oct '06 and feel that this is blatant blackmail.
The thing is I currently pay £7.99 a month for my line rental through Primus, why would I double that amount to keep my free BB? Doesn't make financial sense to me unless I'm missing something!
I am going to give Primus a call in the morning to see what BB offers are available.
I have honestly never had a problem with Orange, their service to me has always been outstanding and I will be reluctant to leave. Whilst I understand that companies have to make changes and move forward it's the way in which they have hit their most loyal customers with the news that is appalling!0 -
I therefore explained to Orange that it was not possible to switch to their line proposition under any circumstances as I relied on the above features to keep myself in business. The response was to either like it or lump it. Thanks a bunch Orange !
So you pay Orange residential prices and use the services to run a business and then expect to keep free broadband? Some may call that enterprising, it's not though. The upshot is I'm moving the line and broadband to SKY. The clincher was the unlimited broadband as I'm a fairly heavy user.
It's unlimited inasmuch as they won't stop the flow of data you download, but if you look at the fine print, available on their website (I'd post the link but as a new user I'm unable to) you'll see that there is a usage cap with strict terms, conditions and penalties for breaching.anyone currently in a mobile contract with Orange who is losing their "free" broadband are losing a material aspect of their contract - ergo Orange are in breach of contract. As such these people should be able to cancel their mobile contracts without penalty.
Nope. You can't breach a contract for something that isn't part of a contract, whether or not you believe it was implied. You'll have to prove it was.Lizzie2995 wrote: »Everytime I renew my mobile phone contract I confirm that I will continue to receive home broadband with this package. I have told Orange that I consider the free broadband forms part of the contract for my mobile phone. Therefore I would expect that when I agree a new contract next year they are able to withdraw any services they wish.
And at the time, the information was correct. The offer has now been withdrawn in accordance with Terms and Conditions you agreed to. You may tell anyone you like what you consider to be, that doesn't make it law.Because of the free broadband !
So by that logic, if someone offered you a free plate of hair for your dinner, you'd eat it? No one takes anything for free if it's unfit for any purpose.I now discover that Orange have no equivalent to Anytime and all their landline calls are charged at 7.2p a minute. We are retired and make most of our calls during the day and on our last bill we had made an average 7 hours calls per month. WITH THE NEW ORANGE PLAN THIS WOULD COST US £25 per month in call charges. So Orange's new offer would cost us an extra £19 pm over BT's line plus Anytime!
Many of these posts suggest that Orange are not making any money out of this. Not true! They will make it on the call charges.
If only you'd truly done your research you'd have discovered that Orange DO have a comparable package for anytime calls for customers having their free broadband withdrawn. It's not the cheapest option on the face of it but it includes anytime UK landline calls, 500 free minutes to UK mobiles and 100 free minutes to selected overseas destinations.
You're quoting what you costs would be if you took the plain line rental option. Also, Orange's calls are 7.5p per minute, to a UK landline anytime. Bt's are currently 7.95, rising to 8.41 in the new year as well as the line rental increase to £15.45.
And of COURSE Orange will be making money, and in doing so, in the majority of cases will be REDUCING your costs...
Once again, I'd like to stress that I do not work for Orange.0 -

You would pay Orange their land rental minus primus £7.99 so hardly double and then you get free BB.0 -

£14 to Orange as opposed to £7.99 to Primus - it'll be costing me an extra 6 or 7 quid a month if I move to Orange so yes it is nearly double that I'll have to shell out.
If I move to Orange I'd also have to bare the cost of terminating my Primus contract that I've only had since May. I also had to pay them 60 quid to install a line at my property.
Either way you look at it my costs are going to increase and I'm not happy about it as my budget is is already bursting at the seams.0 -

Prior to Orange offering Broadband as a bundle with your mobile, the standard monthly rental on the mobile phone contract was £15 pcm. I had a mobile phone account with them for years at £15pcm.
As soon as Orange acquired the internet service they increased that £15 pcm charge to £30pcm. It doubled overnight.
Yet they [were allowed to] called this internet service 'FREE'
They saw a loophole and used it.
Orange staff also clearly stated that the broadband would be free for life.
I'm sorry but that is utter garbage. Oranges standard price was £15 a month then they doubled it to £30?! They have always had a range of tariffs depending on the amount of minutes / texts etc you get. And they didn't force anyone to increase their tariff and take the free broadband. I myself was on a £25 a month mobile contract and was paying £14.99 a month for broadband. I chose to move onto a £30 contract to qualify for free broadband thus saving £9.99 a month.
If you think Orange are in the wrong, then you have to have your facts right.
And as for Orange saying this broadband was free for life, I have never read or heard that from any Orange source.0 -

It'll cost you an extra 6 or quid a month for your line rental. It'll cost you nothing for your broadband.
If you switch to Primus for your broadband, the cheapest option is £2.99 for unlimited BB with a 20GB data allowance (data charged at £2 per GB once you go over that). This is dependent on a line rental charge of £13.99, making your total package price £16.98, almost £3 dearer than the Orange deal.
For a new line installation, you'd have paid whichever provider you contacted.
You may find that even with penalty fees, the Orange deal is cheaper in the long run.0
