all i have had so far is comments about my change of nappies (disposable to cloth) by mums at the toddler group, also had my neighbour point out to me about them being on my line to dry
OMG now I feel really old. It doesn't seem that long since it was a competition to have the whitest nappies on the line. I always loved to see my nappies drying on the line. In fact I would list it as one of the sights that made me content.
OMG, now I feel like a real saddo.:rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
I read the comments about washing food bags and hanging them out. I do this also except i do throw away the freezer bags that have had raw meat in.
Someone said they put raw meat in margarine tubs ect when freezing and then put them in the dishwasher afterwards....i can't believe i've never thought about that...what a great idea! Thanks.
Anyway, my friend came round and saw my food bags and carrier bags on the washing line (i sometimes use carrier bags to take my peelings etc to my allotment). she laughed and said she thought she was the only one who did that...it just goes to show that there are more us around than we think.0 -

Margarine tubs are usually made from thin styrene foil and are unlikely to stand the dishwasher temperature, even on the top shelf, without distorting. Look on the bottom of the tub, whatever it is, if it has PP (or 05) in the triangular recycle logo it should be OK, if it's PS, or LD, or LLD it probably wont be (unless it has the 'dishwasher' logo as well).
On the bag hygene issue after washing LDPE bags I reuse them inside out next time, and so on. I wouldn't reuse bags that have had meat in them, fresh or frozen.0 -

When dd no1 first left home, she always brought home all her marg tubs. These were washed in the dw, filled with left over meals from home, frozen, taken by her on her next visit, then brought home and repeated. Although I don't actually save them, I have been known to use marg tubs for freezing extra soup.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
Maybe I'm being dim here but why not re-use bags that have had meat in them? Surely people don't throw away the knife or the chopping board used to prepare the meat in the first place? A thorough wash in hot, soapy water is enough in all other cases.
The only safety exemption that I can think of is using a raw meat bag for something else that isn't going to be heated/cooked such as sliced ham for sandwiches. Perhaps it's just me being blase?0
