People have been brainwashed into thinking that disposable is somehow a good thing, rather than realising that it just means having to throw stuff away.Your OSing is freeing you from thinking the way businesses want you to think. You have a mind of your own. Maybe she doesn't!
I've mostly only had a negative reaction over washable nappies...
and the baby is on my knee and has just err given me reason to change it so I better go!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

There is still alot of negativity surrounding washable nappies, myself i wish id used them sooner
in the last few days i mentioned to more and more people i am now using them, i have been told how unhygenic they are, had the 'they are no more green than disposables' thrown at me they smell could go on forever
my bin no longer smells its no longer full by first weekend of being emptyed and i love looking at my nappies out on the line, i have also had no more mornings of getting up with gel split nappies and little boys covered in that gelDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

How can anyone say disposable nappies are in ANY way green???
They are one of the biggest contributers to landfill, and one of the biggest problems for recycling
Unhygenic? Have these people never heard of washing as an option?
Toweling nappies have been around for many many years... and all those millions of babies have managed to survive and grow up...me included

This is why i get weird looks because i've just turned 22 and people think i'm strange with my O/S ways like cooking from scratch, being careful with the leccy and gas, shopping in charity shops etc. but what do they know? The people who are my age that i know are in debt anyway but apparantly its ok to run up ££££ of debt because 'you can always go bankrupt'! :rotfl:  Lol
Though i suppose its different for me having DD and staying at home, not out every night spending loads.

the study that was done suggested that once you had washed and dried them that it was no better (no idea how they worked that out)
i now know myself how much space nappies take up, have been left feeling guilty for how long i used disposables for hence why i have 2 size 3 packets and 2 size 4 packets left in my house that i cannot bring myself to use.
the only bit im not keen on is takeing them out the bucket to put in the wash but thats only for breif secondsDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

I know the feeling kate
I think in the 3 years since my sons been born ive been out probably 6 times where ive had to leave himwith someone else otherwise he comes with me everywhere.
i make everything from scratch, am careful about how i use my gas and electric and actually already have alot of stuff in to heat proof my house come this winter so i can use less heating and we're not even in spring really yet.
Ive got my veggie patch almost ready to be planted, my freezer is stocked with homemade meals or discounted veg etc for soups etc. i ask for practical gifts at christmas birthdays etc
I save everything too - money wise i have 4 piggy banks going - one terramundi, one sons piggy bank, bf has one saving for car parts and i have one for when i get wages/tax credits etc and the spare left over money is put in mine and used for family treats or to get us ahead with bills.
I already have started xmas shopping for this years xmas so i dont have to worry nearer the time.
My bf is 5 years older than me and he is in nearly £15,000 of debt which he really struggles to pay . Me - i have a debt of £200 which is from a catalogue which i used for birthday presents thats it
Fingers crossed ill be debt free by the end of this month. and then i am set to actually start getting some savings together. i love being OS
Plus i do find as well like ZOMBIECASS said - i do find im much more relaxed too. I love being in the kitchen cooking/bakign etc and find it really enjoyable adn shes right i dont have much time to worry about anythign becasue im always finding somethign to doTime to find me again0 -
i love looking at my nappies out on the line
This was always my favourite bit too........ watching bright white nappies, all in a row, fluttering on the washing line! I was raging for weeks when because of a skin condition my little ones consultant said she had to wear disposables because it wicked the moisture away from the skin quicker.:D"all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time..."0 -

Dreading being told this when Bradley next go's, he has exzema but quite serverly (we have to use wet wrapping on him daily) saying that ive not had problems in the nappie area so hopefully we should be able to carry on with out washables, but even if i am told to switch back i may find i wont as we have yet to have problemsDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

I can relate to a lot of the stuff mentioned here, I know I'm considered to be quite kooky by both my neighbours and my in-laws and I wouldn't say I'm particularly evangelical about being OS. I'm very lucky because I follow OS principles because I want to, not because I have to, but my neighbours are always trying to give us stuff, I think they think we're poor.
I've recently got a wormery which has just confirmed to them that I am a complete loop.0 -

But I think having seen the rest of my frugality, and how much I home bake, she reckons we're skint. So far she's given me some green tea bags and a packet of biscuits.... the green tea bags weren't bad (I usually use loose), but the biscuits....yikes... I had forgotten how sickly sweet packaged ones were... if she brings more I think I'll be starting a xmas hamper for another elderly person a bit early!!Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
