  • These people live on a different planet from the rest of us, and speak a different language. Look up the phrase he used in your nearest handy 'SnottyToff to Canny Shopper Translation Dictionary', and you'll find that the expression translates as 'I'm a bit of a knob, really. Just ignore me'. I commend you for resisting any temptation to tell him that maybe he should be reigning in his own spending a bit more, since the surgery he evidently requires to have his head removed from up his own bum does not come cheaply :)

Your story reminded me of when we were kids and my mum and dad took us shopping for shoes before we went back to school - the dreaded Clark's 'sensible' variety that they insisted on for us every year whatever the cost. The salesman took one look (down his nose) at us, decided that there was no way we could afford the shop's standard pricing, and said in the snootiest of tones to my mum 'The sale is THIS way, Madam!' :rotfl:
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature!

Oh please don't feel bad just because a snotty nobody needs to look at other people's shopping to feel superior. That was his little satisfaction. He can't have many genuine friends anyway, so I bet that places you in a much better position, humanely speaking.

Money may be important, but it's not a yardstick with which to measure people's worth - their REAL worth, I mean.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Definitely his problem, not yours. If he wants to waste his money (which probably really belongs to Capital One Visa) on paying full price for something simply for it's snob value, then that's up to him. It'll be so much harder for him to cut down if something bad happens like redundancy - the rest of us are used to OS and getting real value for our hard-earned cash. I hate it when people stereotype others like that. He must lead a sad life.

There are some horrible people about & like others have said he's probably up to his ears in debt. If he had been a woman my Mum Would have described himas "All fur coat & no Knickers" ie everything for show, to look better than everyone else. I know its hard but try & forget what he said & when he next comes in smile sweetly & think of all the comments /support you've had on this forum

  • Now I feel like Johnny walking out of step as all other posts have been thanked and not mine. All I am saying is don't take offence as non MAY have been meant. However you don't know what he is thinking, so don't worry about it - what my psychologist used to mean. Don't get upset as you are the one suffering.

I am exactly the same as you hence the psychologists comment to me, which I remember when I feel that someone is looking at me funny - it doesn't always help.

    Hey Sammy

DH and I always on look out for a bargain. Don't let him get to you. One of the main things on this forum is where we can save money and get produce still edible but at a bargain price!!!!!

If you save the pennies, then the pounds look after themselves IYKWIM! Sometimes I reject the yellow sticker stuff as it is not the bargain it seems to be but will always snap up anything I think is still fresh, a bargain and can go into the freezer. This guy is probably operating on full max overdraft on everything!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Take care. GB

Oh Sammy-Kaye....big hugs for you... ignore the silly man! I wish I'd been half as sensible as you when I was your age, and had thought about doing half the money saving things you do for you and bf and little son. I seemed to lurch from one crisis to another, and never got things just right! :)

Like bellsbells I believe in karma too... he'll get his cumuppance one day... sooner, rather than later I hope!

You carry on doing what your'e doing... a brilliant job of moneysaving and making sure your family are well cared and looked after.

    Take care x
