Im trying to be o/s at work, and slowly bringing the girls around to the idea. My main pet hate at work is paper waste. Im forever fishing A4 paper out the bin, which has been printed on incorrectly. This soon could be cut up and used for scrap/note paper!
My neighbour is very much o/s and its her I need to thank for introducing me to this site! Thank the lord neither of us have net curtainsHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
I have had people buy me plastic food bags cos they thought I couldn't afford them!;) Please be careful though and throw out bags that have contained raw meat in, not worth the risk! Speaking with my food safety hat on!:o I wash and reuse all other bags though! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

thanks didnt think of that.... the meat was frozen.. in the bags.. so i took it out and then defrosted...mmmmmm
do you think i shouls throw the bags away then or could i re-use then for freezing more meat ?Work to live= not live to work0 -
I use ice cream tubs to freeze raw meat.. they can be run through the dishwasher and reused.
The bags I use for veggies and cooked meats.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Personally I would throw them away. I know it seems a waste though but better to be safe. I now wrap raw meat in the cheapest bags I can knowing I shall throw them away and keep the zip locks for bakery goods, veg and fruit so that I can safely reuse. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

I have been thought wierd my entire life. I was making clothing out of the scrap bag my dad was sent for cleaning his engines when I was 11. But I did get some fab compliments on my silk patchwork skirt.
I have been oblivious to most of the funny looks cos they can do what they want and I will do what I want. I do remember one time when we were walking home from school when another parent asked if I had made my children's shoes. Bewildered I said no - why? Because I seemed to have made just about everything else they were wearing and most of that from old clothes.:D
The great thing is that what I have always done just to get by is now fashionable and I can now claim to be saving the planet instead of just saving money:o The interesting thing was when those who looked askance at me for my money saving ways were more than interested to find out how to save the pennies when their own circumstances needed it. I suspect that nowadays they would rather increase their credit card bill rather than 'resort' to making their own, or make do and mend.True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. People in my local tescos think ive lost the plot - because im constantly on my mobile - little do they know i actualyl have the calculator up and am adding up the shop as i go which i quite enjoy doing.
People where i work think im odd too - i work in a food shop and every other member of staff eats a free dinner (we are supposed to pay but no one does or rarely does) but i still take in packed lunches because i know its healthy rather than eating rubbish all the time.
My grandmother was mortified recently when she came to stay too becasue every doorway had clothes hanging in them drying, all around the shower rail was full of slothes drying - there was a n airer set up in the bath and the window opened to get the clothes dry, two washing lines full outside and every radiator had clothes on ready to dry.
Plus i told my neighbour i was going to be starting my vegetable patch soon (im 22 btw) and the look on her face was priceless (we dont talk much either just in passing) but i expect she'll see what shes missing when i have lovely fresh free veg and dont have to fight back from the local shops with it allTime to find me again0 -
Do you not find that being old style. Spending lots of time, making and baking, gives you less time to worry about your debts and in the end makes you happier.
In the past year I have made new friends, began knitting, crocheting and reconstructing clothes. I have chickens in my garden, seedlings all over my house and everyone one I know got something (if not everything) homemade for their Christmas.
I have four demijohns of wine made from foraged foods, I have began to put beans in everything. I make my own museli and yoghurt for breakfast and I can get by for a whole month without using my credit card.
People can stop and stare, they can right to Environmental Health, but me I haven't been this content and busy in years."A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." Mark Twain0
