It used to be amusing, but these days it is not. Judged solely on the police, I think I would rather be in Hell with German police than in Heaven with British police

The British police aren't perfect. But there are far worse in the world. In fact the British police probably have one of the best reputations...worrying if you are thinking of travelling around the world. ;)

Can't you nice folk just agree to disagree before you waste any more time running round in circles?

This whole thread's making me chuckle now. It's gone from an ordinary thread to one person saying one thing and another saying something different and each one unwilling to accept a difference of opinion.

I wish I had the kind of life where that's all i had to do :p

You do know that the British Empire has come to an end, don't you?

:rotfl:What's that got to do with showing respect for the police?
  • And was that just because of false accusations, or was there more to it than that?

With an overworked, and under funded police force, it would be nice to think that they were punished in some way.

She'd falsely accused three other people of the same offence, all under nearly the same circumstances. She found herself in trouble, and to divert blame, she claimed to have been racially abused by a variety of people. She was only just 10 when she made the accusation against the minor in my case. And he only 'got off' (4 months wait) because there was CCTV proof that she made it all up.

The officers who took over the investigation were completely professional, the CPS less so for taking such a long time to make a decision on one case (despite the clear evidence) and yet taking less than a week to decide there was no case against the people who made the false accusations.

I'm appreciative of the fact that the police have to investigate everything thoroughly, but that doesn't give them the right to break the law when doing so. And stopping that from happening does not give you the right to label me a police hater'

It is not about respect, it is about the reputation of the police as given by this:

Even back in 1976 there were people who did not believe they wee the best in the world.
The British Police are the best in the world
I don't believe one of these stories I've heard
'Bout them raiding our pubs for no reason at all
Lining the customers up by the wall
Picking out people and knocking them down
Resisting arrest as they're kicked on the ground
Searching their houses and calling them queer
I don't believe that sort of thing happens here

Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way

Pictures of naked young women are fun
In Titbits and Playboy, page three of The Sun
There's no nudes in Gay News our last magazine
But they still find excuses to call it obscene
Read how disgusting we are in the press
The News of The World and the Sunday Express
Molesters of children, corruptors of youth
It's there in the paper, it must be the truth

Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way

Don't try to kid us that if you're discreet
You're perfectly safe as you walk down the street
You don't have to mince or make puffy remarks
To get beaten unconscious and left in the dark
I had a friend who was gentle and short
Got lonely one evening and went for a walk
Queerbashers caught him and kicked in his teeth
He was only hospitalised for a week

Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way

So sit back and watch as they close all our clubs
Arrest us for meeting and raid all our pubs
Make sure your boyfriend's at least 21
So only your friends and your brothers get done
Lie to your workmates, lie to your folks
Put down the queens and tell anti-queer jokes
Gay Lib's ridiculous, join their laughter
'The Burgers are legal now, what more are they after?'

Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way
The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

The CPS should have dropped the case when they realised that there was no evidence against the accused. But as is often the case in the British justice system, the CPS are the weak link.
