I'm a police hater now because I took issue with YOUR posts? :rotfl::rotfl:
To quote the government (they are the people who make the laws on behalf of the public, remember?) with regard to interviewing minors they say this
There you are, it is in black and white. The interview NewKittenHelp described was in breach of the child's rights. What relevance does how old a person looks have? It is how old they are that matters, it is the responsibility of any law enforcement officer to ensure that correct procedures are followed.
And just because some people, children or adults, behave badly does not give anyone, including you, the right to suggest throwing out the rule book for everyone else. Your criticism of NewKittenHelp's intervention implies that you think the police should be able to act in any way they see fit? Sorry, but the law applies to the police too, and the vast majority of officers have the sense to realise that.
I repeat what I said, whatever your connection with the police force is, you haven't done them any favours on this thread.
You don't have a clue about the alleged interview as described by NewKittenHelp, any more than I do.
There is a difference between asking a minor a question, and interviewing them. They don't have to have an adult present to ask ' did you steal those sweets'. And I don't know the full circumstances any more than you do. In fact I doubt that NewKittenHelp knows the full circumstances.0 -
DVardysShadow wrote: »Did they not start when the police shot someone? Thinking of people as the enemy is a 2 way street and it seems that the police bear some responsibilities themselves in that direction in relation to the riots.
To be honest the shooting was just used as an excuse.
Didn't you see the program about the riots last night? A man was being arrested for nicking a TV from Currys. And when challenged, his reply was 'you shouldn't have shot ......' Now how does the police shooting someone justify looting, and destroying peoples businesses and homes in your own area?0 -

And if you bothered to read the thread you would see that the OP has been back. But I presume that unlike some people in these forums, the OP has a life.0 -

You really are a vile person. You turn to personal insults of anyone who doesn't agree with you.
The fact is that you know absolutely nothing about me at all.0 -

This made the thread (and the world) a little better for me.
, his belligerent style of posting on it just left me the impression he just enjoys "laying down the law" to others from the safety of his keyboard. This message is hidden because Jamie Carter is on your ignore list. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Erm, and what are you doing?
YOU have made a complete t*t of yourself all over this thread aggressively accusing people of being police haters because they have a different opinion to yours.
The only person who doesn't appear to have a life on this thread is yourself, but carry on it's hilarious. :rotfl:

There is a big difference between justification and explanation. I don't think police behaviour justifies what happened, but it goes some way to explaining it. Remember I was responding to thisJamie_Carter wrote: »To be honest the shooting was just used as an excuse.

I think when police shoot someone it is not unreasonable that some people seethe police as the enemy. And there seems to be an undercurrent of people letting loose because of persistent low level goading by the police. When you consider that there is a perspective which sees the police as being there mainly to protect the interests of the propertied classes, it is not entirely surprising that you see frustrations being taken out on the propertied classes.Jamie_Carter wrote: ».... Do you really think it's a good idea to give children a bad example, by encouraging them to think of the police as the enemy?...remember the riots last year?
Not that I am arguing to justify what happened - but I do want to make a very strong point that the police could have been acting very differently in the years prior to the rioting and it would have left people's natural inhibitions against such behaviour much less eroded.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Oh I do have a sense of humour. But you are obviously the sort of person who thinks that personal insults are funny...well time for a reality check, they aren't.
There is nothing sadder than someone who thinks they are funny, when they aren't.0
