O/S daily 28/3/07

QUasar, I fully appreciate what you are trying to say and I also, sincerely hope that there is no long lasting or permanent damage to anyone's self esteem due to being reigned in (rightly so!) on how the daily thread has been developing.

However, to be fair to those who DO feel aggreived by it, they also need a place to discuss their unhappiness and why they feel so.

I'm going to open a thread for their benefit, and to draw an end to the discussion on the daily as I feel it is not appropriate - let's be realistic here!, some people are going to wake up tomorrow morning with x # of emails to alert them to updates on this thread, which, to be perfectly frank, they want no share of

Not everyone has the stamina nor the inclination to get involved in a word game... which for some that are involved, can mean the (seemingly) difference between being offended, affronted, insulted and yet for others is merely a platform to express themselves more clearly and yet others again, want no part of!!!

I'm far less experienced of OS than either Nelski or Queenie, but from what I have seen, the daily thread is very supportive of anyone's trouble when they are posted, because they are not trivial matters.

I have recently had many family troubles, including a sudden family death.

I don't really know why, but I found myself posting about this on this thread & not in the Arms, even though people didn't know me. To my surprise I found lots of encouragement & friendliness. I feel it would be a great shame if that should change.

Woody, having read the announcement (which seems to have sparked this controversy), it's not so much the times when support is needed that has provoked issues, but the content, ie pix dominated posts and also, numerous one liner posts within the thread.

The ongoing and genuinely given support at times of difficulty have never been an issue before and I don't believe are an issue to date - you are more than correct in saying that the encouragement and friendliness of OS is a mainstay, which is why I haven't seen that that, per se, is an issue.

I have opened up a discussion thread for these very issues, which I hope will now be the focus for this topic so that the daily thread is swamped with opinions on what is clearly a very sensitive subject and we can keep the topic in one place. It is located here:-

By keeping the discussion in one thread, not only keeps the topic together so all points of view can be aired, it also prevents other waking up to a deluge of email notifications pointing to this thread when not everyone wishes to get involved - which I can understand - but it does give a forum for those who are feeing aggrieved to have their say and those who are feeling disgruntled to air their views also.

Fundamentally, (and, for the record, this is my own opinion and not endorsed by BG's or Martin Lewis) the OS board is simply that ... discussing OS ways and means of SAVING MONEY! It is not a free for all posting gallery for any and all misfortunes that one encumbers in life.

Thank you for clearing that one up for me.

I see now that I no longer welcome here if in and amongst my post I include any personal misfortunes. Well unfortunately for me one goes with another. As I said it is far less effort to just tick off my pad when my jobs are done rather than rewrite my efforts here daily for your perusal.

Thank you Q. for your input, I have stepped back and after much thought I no longer want any part of this thread. Thank you all you other guys for your messages of support they have meant the world to me and as OH's condition and our problems evolve I will miss your support.

This gave me a good laugh, thanks! Reminds me of when my sister - now forty-seven years old - who, on finding out just how babies are made said 'it's disgusting - if you have to do that, I'm NEVER having children' - she's got three so she obviously overcame her disgust! I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS IS ON THIS PARTICULAR THREAD - IT'S A REPLY TO ANOTHER POST WHICH I FORGOT TO QUOTE! This thread sounds so serious I would hate it if someone thought I was not taking it seriously!
