Interestingly, due to the content of some of the OS threads, I often wonder if we should have a "Therapy Room" ... a platform for just "offloading" woes of the day/posting encouragement/motivational threads?

OS daily thread is there to motivate, support and encourage those who wish to discuss their *OS* kinda day.

queenie, I read your post with interest, are you suggesting that I should no longer post about that which most worries me ie, DH's health and the niggles other than OS in my life when I post about my day and any OS'ing I have done, and do you think I need a therapy room to chat about it??

What happens in my day is an amalgam of highs, lows, oldstyling, venting, generally living my life the best way I can. If the outcome of all this is that you all only want to hear about my OSing then I see no further point in posting here. I allready tick off a list of jobs daily in my pad as I complete them.

This daily thread has been an immense source of comfort to me over the last couple of months with my worries and very real fears about OH's health, never mind the motivation and cracking ideas I have gained from the board in general. It has made massive changes to my life since I found it.

So what is it to be?????????

to be fair smokey babe I dont think anyone suggested (especially not queenie ) that you needed to change how you post

the discussions have been around people who can post up to 40 and more times one line posts - you dont do this:confused:

Personally i love your posts and the effort you put in and I am really hoping all turns out ok for you.

Sorry to answer but I think as always happens Queenie has been dragged in to an argument that she didnt start

Thank you for your reply Nelski but the above is what queenie posted.

I find my days hard and long enough and the daily OS is a part of it, after all when I finish work the first job is a large coffee, shoes off and get the computer on to see what you have all been up to.:D and that's before I shower! .

I don't want to nit pick but there have been a lot of mixed messages here today and I am only responding to the above comments.

Incidentally AMIE is dvestated and I do think that asking the BG's to pm her would have been a kinder way to deal with things. IMHO.

    .....

So what is it to be?????????

I'm not suggesting anything - merely that we abide by the guidelines given to us by the OS BG's and most particular Martin Lewis (the owner of this site).

If I had my own way - which is never likely - yes indeed there would be such a thing as a "therapy room" ... after all, we ALL have our own woes, trials and tribulations to contend with on a daily basis. Some are far more at ease discussing their personal circumstances than others. For some, that may be as simplistic as what to cook for our daily bread each day; for others, it may well mean something more core, basic and yet equally debilitating/challenging.

It is not for ME to decide!

The ONLY thing I DO know is, how, why and the wherefore's of how the OS daily thread originated. As with most things in life, it is fluid but is nonetheless a place to suite the majority.

If you are suggesting that you wish to focus on (and I quote your words here) "... niggles OTHER than OS in my life... " then, yes, in my personal opinion, if you have issues ".. other then OS... " then I think perhaps there would be another forum to address those particular aspects. That may well sound harsh, but it isn't meant to be if taken in the context that YOU put it: ie: you freely state "... other than OS".

Please do not take my words the wrong way. I judge by the tenor of you post that you have taken exception by my wording. That's ok, you are free to read into it what you will. However, by your own admission, you stated "other than OS".

It's perhaps unfortunate that you are not aware of the controversy which surrounded the establishment of the Daily Thread ... this meant that the daily thread needed to focus on two core issues of the site. One being that it needed to focus on the money saving aspect (primarily) and also (secondary) that it had to be pertinent to OS ways and means.

Yes, indeed it has evolved since then (and rightly so in some ways!) - yet, and forgive me if I'm mistaken - I've only had time to focus on core issues rather than global ones :o - the main reason for dissent appears to be as squeaky stated in his announcement (endorsed by his fellow BG's) revolving around the number of one liner posts and level of pix? Neither of which has anything to do with your dh's health!?

Yes I have given my opinion on a synopsis of the flavour of the daily thread as it is today. Rightly, or wrongly, I haven't been an ardent poster in the past month or so. I have been a member for 3+ years and I believe I understand the premise of posting and where (even though, and it's well documented, I have brought to discussion to the why's and wherefore's of the decision making of some placement of posts!)

In this instance, I do hold my hand up and say, that I support the BG's in their decision that pix predominant posts and one liner posts (as evidenced by one poster who has posted 30+ times in one day!) does indeed make the daily thread difficult to keep up with, is not always OS in flavour and to be fair to those who read but do not post, labourious to read!!!!!

Fundamentally, (and, for the record, this is my own opinion and not endorsed by BG's or Martin Lewis) the OS board is simply that ... discussing OS ways and means of SAVING MONEY! It is not a free for all posting gallery for any and all misfortunes that one encumbers in life.

I know that has the potential to sound harsh, and that truly isn't how I personally feel - I truly DO feel when reading these boards that there is a genuine place needed for those who need to off load their personal woes that has nothing to do with moneysaving per se, but is a genuine reflection on how real life is ... trust me, I'd be the first to respond (time constraints allowing).

I think, if you read squeaky's announcement - AS IS - and without rancour - you will see that it is not "personal", nor is mine; it is merely an overview of what is permissable and what is not and that there are other arena's within MSE which cater for those one liner/pix kind of posts!

My personal opinion is simply that ... my PERSONAL opinion!!! Yes, I stand by my opinion that there is indeed a pocket for a "Therapy Room" forum .. one where someone can off load their woes of the day - which, to be perfectly frank, has nothing to do with money saving, but has much to do with sanity saving!!!!!! Dear Lord, we could ALL do with that now and again!!!!!!

Personal worries do not (in the literal sense) = moneysaving. That does not make me unsympathetic, it simply means one does not necessarily equate to the other.

By the same token, I do still stand by my thoughts that we *all* need somewhere we can feel safe, and secure, to off load our worries!!!!!

I can only reiterate: these are my personal opinions and not the opinions of Board Guides or Martin Lewis!!!!

For a definitive answer regarding your query as to whether your dh's health issues, outside of OS moneysaving, and what is and is not permitted, I urge you to speak with a BG, the abuse team or Martin Lewis direct.

By the same token, if you knew me personally, you would know that there is a wealth of difference in my opinion regarding complying with a forum's rules and my personal stance on some matters ;)

My "general" opinion does not make it a personal attack and I hope you will be able to differentiate between the two.

fair enough Smoky and for the record I dont think ANYONE here wanted to see Amie devestated - I hope she can come back from that but some things needed to be discussed and actually it was never all about her although thats the way it seems to have been interpreted i believe it was about the way the thread had gone a bit haywire lately. It did start to look like an arms thread more and more every day and I know cos i go to the arms too:D

The BGs came on to support it very quickly so I dont think TM or me or any of the others being blamed for this were the only ones thinkiing it.

So lets just move on eh?

I think you all have a point here. Smoky is concerned that OS may become too arid and matter of fact, and less amenable to expressing our feelings when things are hard, while Queenie and Nelski are reassuring her this will not be the case.

I'm far less experienced of OS than either Nelski or Queenie, but from what I have seen, the daily thread is very supportive of anyone's trouble when they are posted, because they are not trivial matters.

I also agree that on occasion I found OS a bit like the arms (hence why I felt so at home :p), in that trivial one liners have become a tad too frequent, although I haven't been really bothered by this.

Also, as frizz head has said in her post a little way back, threads like these develop into something very different from what was intended at first, and some users get frustrated.

These spats and tiffs are like the bickering among friends or members of the same family. We let off steam, then step back, cool down and hopefully come back with a new perspective. I sincerely hope there will be no permanent falling outs due to all this.

Does any of the above make sense?

Anyway, yes: keeping the pointless one liners out would help the daily thread be more readable.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
