I hate not being scared of spiders - everyone else I lived with screamed like a jessie and expected me to get rid of them - to the point of pulling me out of bed to do it. Jeebus Christi.

Eugh some of the stories on here make your skin crawl. I once lived in a shared house with a spider problem and spent ages blocking up every nook and crany in the room then sprayed it with insect killing spray around the edges, it seemed to help. I lived in another house with roaches but somehow was never as scared of them as the spiders.....illogical...

I try to put them outside, if I can get to them before the cats (using a glass and postcard) although I am often shaking with fear as I do it. I have a small one who lives in the bathroom, I've told him he can only stay if he 1)eats all the flies and mozzies 2) doesn't grow and 3) absolutely does not breed.

As a small child, I leaned to the floor to pick up my favourite ted who had fallen out of bed only to find a massive wood spider was sat on him.....and that is where my fear came from. We used to get loads of them, our house backed onto a wood. They would get into the far corner of the hall stairs where they could not be reached. My step dad used to flick them down and pretend he had caught them but his eyesight was so bad, we all knew they had scurried away. I think it's the speed they move that freaks me out but I hate the spindly ones too, really hard to put outside without injury to them too...

When I was at secondary school I was bullied by a particularly nasty girl who used to put daddy long legs down my blouse. I had to overcome my fear, in order to stand up to her and stop her fun. It worked and I can now pick these up in my hands and pop them out the back door. Can't bear the crunching noise if the cats get to them first.

I've never had a problem with spiders until now but we seem to have an infestation of false widows! These can give you a very nasty nip if provoked and DS2 (5) is very keen to play with them so they are getting evicted.

Which reminds me that it's time to collect a bagful of conkers :D

I really dislike spiders. Right now the kids dad is being hollered by the children to catch a big spider in their bedroom. I'm not as bad as I used to be though.

Our 3 cats are totally uninterested in spiders and refuse to catch or eat them!
  • My dumbass cat normally just pokes at big spiders and gets them running about the place! <shudder>

We have false widows en masse down here too :(

Surprisingly though,I'm not half as terrified of them (except maybe the big fat one that I sprayed, stayed hanging from the ceiling spinning then dropped down right infront of me when I least expected it-dead thankfully!) as I am of the giant brown things that have been coming in over the past couple of weeks.

I have no idea what type they are as that would involve looking at pictures of spiders. They're the type that has a longer body,a mid brown colour, gigantic bloody legs and are a few inches in total (the ones that have come in have varied between around 2 inches to around 4 !!!!ing inches) and the biggest one I could see two of it's eyes from about a metre and a half away-me stood up,it on the floor.

I am TERRIFIED of spiders and even more so since these have been coming in,I've even been at the point of crying because I can't take anymore of them (doesn't help when I'm trying to pack either-maybe I should've used the past 3 months more wisely!!!!) and since the biggest (have had 15 in two weeks now,all gone not long after entering the house-I think/hope) I've been having bloomin nightmares about spider eyes :(

  • Today in the car, on way home from Morrisons, looked down and on my chest was a big big brown one, thank goodness in the middle of town and not on a motorway, and I was a passenger, and we could pull over, expect you could her my screams 10 miles away, has it cured my fear of spiders NO, there seems to be loads this year about, conkers all over the house, think its time for some in the car!

I hate spiders, but my dh is terrified of them.He goes round with a torch every night looking under the bed and even puts a draught excluder against the bedroom door incase they come under it. We never kill them though, they are always put outside.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • I used to be petrified of spiders. Until I learned that they only like clean houses (please, no-one disillusion me!) and they eat more creepy-crawlies that I don't like at all, so I am perfectly at ease with them. I'm the one to get a glass and a piece of paper and rehouse them at the wood pile if anyone's scared.

The one thing I hate is the slugs we get in the kitchen. I will, and do puke. I don't know how they get in, but they really turn my stomach and I can't eat for days if I see one. OH does remove them instantly but I really loath and detest them!

Spiders are quite harmless in comparison :)
