Spiders - normal ?

He had a bog standard house spider - the whole thing was no more than the size of my thumbnail, including the legs. It got put outside for its own safety. Although there is a mouse spider hanging around the French Beans behind the drainpipe, so it may not have been that safe for it after all.
(They're called Mouse Spiders because they have a soft, furry looking body, not because they're big enough to eat mice, before you all shriek in horror at the thought
)
That bigger one looks like a Raft Spider. You near water at all?
If not, then then most likely I could see online is a variant on the Wall Spider. Originally from the Canaries a good hundred years ago, originally came in with shipping. Still not harmful.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Although house spiders freak me out, I must admit I find the garden variety fascinating. Its been that time of year recently when the garden is full of them, and they seem to build their webs in the most unlikely places. One has built one and anchored it between the patio table and the fence, a span of about 3ft. When it breaks its there again the next day.
I just wonder if the fact that they dont seem so phobia inducing is because they tend to stay fairly static, and you can see them from a distance.0 -
I love spiders, you really shouldnt kill them, we need them, they do so much good.
They head in houses for over the winter so its perfectly normal.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

I loathe spiders...am worried by people saying you can hear the larger ones scurrying about...when I was staying with a friend in North Carolina, USA, away up in thhe mountains, she had serious spider issues (wont share the stories as it'll make your skin crawl). I know that there was something under my bed as I could hear it scurring aaround, but assumed as I could hear it it couldn't be a spider and was probably a lizard or something that one of the cats had dragged in...dread to think what kind of spider it may have been, now.
And just to add, most of the spiders I knew about/came accross in my friends house were dangerous...came accross a small black widow and was also warned that there were brown recluse spiders lurking about, and if I got bit I'd have to be taken to the hospital. My friend lives in a gorgeous area, but there is a lot of wildlife, some lovely (e.g. baby tortoise, etc) some not so much, e.g. spiders and the evil sodding cougar that killed one of her cats0 -
Betterware used to do good spider catchers that I would recommend. They are on a stick so you dont have to get too close to them.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

Since the age of 4 until a month ago I had a crippling fear of spiders. Crazy things I have done because of them:
- Set light to a carpet in order to kill a spider on it
- Called in sick to work because of a spider in the hall preventing me from leaving my flat
- Destroyed a hoover, by using one to hoover up a spider and placing it in the garden while it rained, so the spider didn't climb out of the hoover into my house
- sat crying in a corner while my boyfriend travelled across London during a tube strike
I can not recommend it highly enough, if your life is adversely affected by spiders (or more accurately by your phobia of spiders) book a place on one of next years courses0 -
I think my BF first realised I have a massive phobia of spiders when one (itty bitty one, admitedly) was on the ceiling of my dads car and I tried to open the door at 40mph to get away from it. I can cope with smaller ones as long as they're not bothering me and it's a large area - not a car.
Or possibly when the bigger, thicker crawled across the living room floor so I panicked, ran and sat on the kitchen counter crying whilst he stood laughing at me.... he eventually went to go pick it up when I started throwing dirty washing up at him  Joke was on him though because he couldn't find it until I told him to check under the cushion that had been dislodged in my panic and there it was, staring at him. Gave him a bit of a fright.
I fear it may take three serious spider incidents to get him to realise this.£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January0 -
I just don't understand why you have to kill them when they're doing you no harm *shrug*
just cos they're not aesthetically pleasing, it'd be different if someone said they hate kittens and cats and went around squishing strays.
but then again, I like spiders:heartsmil
