  • I've been improving lately.

It was my birthday yesterday = £70
    Quidco due = £115
I also need to get car and home insurance sorted so hopefully get another £150-£200 through Quidco for those.
I have a couple of bits and bats to put on ebay this weekend.
Its payday on Tuesday and i should have about £50 left in the bank (well, bottom of interest free overdraft  ) which can go towards the CC.

The quidco wont come through til next month though so im far from halfway to £1000!

I'll try do better next month :o

Everyone's doing really well :D - I might have to extend my challenge by a month though as I know I've got the money coming in but it's just waiting for it so I can pay it off  .

I've got another dilemma though. I have won £600 to spend in the Grattan catalogue. I have already decided to let my mum and sister have £200 each to spend as they both really deserve a treat and my sister is currently 6 and a half months pregnant :D . My problem is do I spend my £200 on myself or do I buy something that I could sell for £200 and then put the money on my Capital One card?

I know it might sound nutty, but it is my birthday on Wednesday next week and this feels like my dad has sent this to me as a present (he died last year) and he has also sent it as a present for my mum as it was her birthday on Wednesday last week. I don't believe in god and all that but I do believe that my dad is looking over me and taking care of all of us.

So I don't know whether to treat myself as it's money that I didn't have to spend (and it's not really physical money in my hand) or do I cut another couple of hundred off my debt?

    Any opinions/advice appreciated :D

    Emily,
I think that if you feel that this has been sent from your Dad, you have to take it as a gift from him and think what he would want you to do. If he would want you to treat yourself for all the hard work you are doing to sort your debt out, then that's the right thing to do. Sometimes you have to listen to your heart rather than your head.

  • Emily you do soooooooo well all the time I think ur dad is constantly watching over you!! :) If I were u I would buy something that you really want from the catalogue and you can always look at it and smile!! Have a little fun hun xxx

  • Hi Emily
I think you should treat yourself, you have been working hard and you are treating your mum and sister so why not you? If you are going to extend your challenge for another month then I would still like to do this too if possible. This month has been a bit hit and miss for me. I was looking forward to the kids going back to school to really crack on with this challenge and 2 came down with infections and had to have a week of school, they were quite poorly. So I am looking forward to them going back to school next week and have £100. coming from my book sales so hopefully will pay that off my credit card.
Btw, happy birthday for next week, hope you have a great day and have something nice planned.

Em, I would definitely say to spend the £200 on yourself, I bet in the last year since your LBM you've hardly spent anything on yourself have you?

Don't worry about extending the challenge - it's often an issue when the money's been earned, just not arrived in the bank account!

What you up to on Wednesday to celebrate? It's 2 for 1 day at the cinema, or I've got a £5 off 2 people eating at Ha!Ha! bar at Gunwharf voucher I could email you if you'd like (PM me your addy)

As for me, well I listed a load of DVD's on Ebay last week, and only 1 has got a bid :( still, they've still got a few days to go so fingers crossed!

ebay is doing a good turn for me :) i am now down to owing £548!!
i have about 58.00 (so on friday i will owe 490 when it has been downloaded!!!) in my paypal plus a few auctions ending in a few days..although it those won't make much at all...just going on every penny helps moto! I have run out of things to sell though!
This weekend may ruin my budget this week though....oldest daughter is going off to the nationals!! she got gold again for her regionals comp at her level (gymnastics) so we have to travel all the way to Birmingham...hotel over night the works! it is taking every bone in my body not to go dig out the credit card to buy a dvd camera so i can record it...need to do some phoning round to find out if i can borrow one.
But hey we have cleared stupid amount of debts over the last two years so one weekend of taking the card 'just in case' will be ok.
    GHood luck everyone!!

Thank you for your kind offer :A . My boyfriend is taking me to TGIs for dinner, bless him.

I think I will add another month onto my challenge as I know the money is coming along but it's getting it all in the bank so I can pay it off the card  . If I manage to finish any earlier than the end of June then I will just add another credit card to the challenge which is my Barclaycard with only £380 on :D .

  • Hiya All!

Firstly _party_ HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY! :bdaycake: I hope you had a wonderful day.

I've not had the chance to read mse for a whiley and have missed a lot! I've read your other challenge thread emily and oh my gosh you are motivated!!!

On the cc challenge front today I received a letter to go to an interview next week for the initial job I applied for :j I'd lost hope and didn't think anything would come at all. If I can get this I'll have a definate regular pay coming in as I'm self employed so money can vary drastically :(

I'm carrying on with my ebaying, doing alright so far and have to list more [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] treasures for other people, doing it a bit at a time instead of all in one lump. Is that wise? Or is it better to have a huge amount of items ending on the same day?

I've started spending a bit of time each day comping but my luck is dire so I'm not holding out much hope and I've signed up to a few mystery shopping sites.

Today I transferred my balance to a new credit card so I've got 0% interest for 12 months and just a 2% balance transfer fee, means I'm not paying my blooming bank more than I want.

Aaaaaannnnnnddd finally, I'm just off to open a new bank account as when my pay goes in on Friday I'll be out of my overdraft so I'm going to apply for my bank charges back, they're not much but my bank has messed me around so much over the years with various things (not setting up standing orders, changing my address without me asking them to!!! amongst other stuff) I'd rather have my money back! I've got all my statements, and a draft letter written up so roll on Friday :)
