Hi Robin,
Glad CD is well and starting to feel a bit better in herself.
Good plan re your mate. Ruffled feathers can be smoothed and certainly worth considerable effort after 30 years.
Have a great day,

Hello Kissjenn, :hello:Glad CD is well and starting to feel a bit better in herself.
She is feeling the 'human' emotions which cause depression. But we will get through it - could be worse: Dear Vet giving CD another thorough revision has reassured me - for now; but cancer seems to be everywhere at the moment and I know what the odds are after it has appeared twice already. _pale_
Still, here and now there's no reason not to be positive.Whilst also being watchful.
Good plan re your mate. Ruffled feathers can be smoothed and certainly worth considerable effort after 30 years.
Indeed. Don't feel inclined to initiate another email exchange atm; silence is better than sending the wrong words.Have a great day.
Hmph. After the last trip into town followed by two days of physical work with Gardener, am not worth a lot today.
Everything aches; all I want to do is huddle up somewhere comfy and drink tea. So am wandering around with a wet tea-towel draped over m' head, not achieving much at all in between having lots of short catch-ups on here.
Gardener will be back first thing tomorrow for another bash at tidying up / landslide prevention, which involves transferring a pile of cement that would otherwise be spoiled, onto a six metre high cliff behind the Nest. Don't possess a ladder that long, so a fair bit of female ingenuity is required to apply a coat of cement-wash evenly and safely.
The glacial speed of m' interweb connection tells me it is the end of the month. Am still behind on two - no, three - financial topics (start new regular saver a/c with FD, Tax Return and mortgage application). :embarasse
Spent £100 on materials and Gardener's wages last week. Vet's bill was at least £80 less than expected, so after our moonlit walk CD and I gave in to the beckoning cheery lights of a restaurant by the beach.
Only really wanted a single course, but the waitress insisted on bringing out a bowl of vegetable soup to start. After the first mouthful I was grateful she'd persuaded me - it was fantastic! Chef had blended local flavours to perfection; for such a humble dish it was awesome. :T
When the next plate arrived, Waitress commented that the fish had been swimming an hour ago - perhaps I'd seen her brother deliver his catch while CD and I were walking on the beach? We had indeed; four men hefted the fishing boat up the beach on rollers, the old-fashioned way (very MSE: Avoids mooring charges at the port). Impressive to watch but incredibly hard labour for the participants.
The fish was as succulent and tasty as could have been hoped for, although I'd have preferred crunchier chips (but at least they were obviously prepared from fresh potatoes).
Waitress could not tempt me with pudding; was absolutely stuffed even though I'd left half the chips. My bill? 6.90€!0 -
Sounds like a feast! For the senses and the tastebuds equally. Glad you and CD had a nice time XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

Good morning Diary and Money Savers, :hello:
Yes Lucky, that was a very tasty dinner - just realised I've not eaten a proper meal since; last night was so exhausted after eight full hours of physical labour that I fell asleep while watching the tea-time news.
Gardener is coming back in half an hour; unfortunately can't split her working days as she has commitments elsewhere.. But am not at all sure I can keep up the pace; she's helping with jobs that cannot be done by one person so unfortunately it's not possible to just leave her to carry on.
Got into a row on Faceache after warning off a thief who was waxing lyrical at 'photos of the Nest, about his wish to return. It was a cryptic comment only he would have understood, but after other "friends" jumped in defending the toe-rag I told the world what he did. Now they've all gone quiet but somehow don't think that will be the end of it.
Suppose I'd better have some breakfast before Gardener turns up, raring to go. Don't feel hungry at all - seem to have turned the five/two diet on it's head but still am not losing weight!0 -
Awesome treat. I am so glad you were impulsive and did that Robin. It's important to enjoy life in the midst of all the hard work on the house and the never ending jobs! It also supports the local economy which is certainly a theme close to my heart! €6 is some bill!
Glad CD is working through it..I am sure there is a lot in her feeling bereaved and lost. Just as we do. They are pack animals after all.

Dinner sounds scrumptious, and for that price it would be a regular trip out
As for your friend and sending her money I think that was a lovely gesturehowever I know from experience people who are 'proud' and would be angry at this...I know because my own dear mother is like this! She's got better in recent years with accepting help but I remember her reacting the same way as your friend did many a time. Just the way she was brought up I guess, and also feelings of inadequacy of not being able to do it herself.

Your dinner out sounds perfect Robin, I wish I was on a beach front eating local food (although perhaps not fish, urgh
).
I hope you've recovered from your emotional fragility regarding your friend, it's a horrible shock to get a mystifying rebuff like that. I suspect the others are correct, and she is going through something herself at the moment. I think turning up at her door with a bottle of wine is a very good idea given the propensity people have to take emails the wrong way!Barclaycard [STRIKE] £2770 [/STRIKE] now £2690.

..Unanimous approval (that doesn't happen often on MSE! :rotfl:). Must say was happily surprised at the cost of my meal. As Brizzled says, it's a great [although tiny] way to support the local economy. Now I know CD is also welcome at that restaurant, we'll definitely be going back - it was rather nice not to have to think about cooking immediately we got home..
Fudgie, have you ever tried really fresh fish? It doesn't compare to the stuff found on supermarket shelves or from the chippy!
..But should fate ever bring you here; rest assured there's always plenty of alternatives on restaurant menus.debtfreewannabe321 wrote:As for your friend and sending her money I think that was a lovely gesture however I know from experience people who are 'proud' and would be angry at this...I know because my own dear mother is like this! <sigh> Inadvertently got it very wrong with my dear Mate. Beforehand, she did say she really wanted to visit..
Still keeping quiet because I don't know how to make things better from here.
Wrote the above yesterday, then got a 'phone-call from Ex inviting me out to lunch / wanting a lift to go and meet a very old mutual friend who was briefly passing through..
Brizzled's comment about being impulsive resonated, so [after checking the restaurant had got a reservation for us, and CD would also be welcome] I went for it.
As I picked up the keys to leave I remembered m' van insurance had run out [thanks Lucky!], so ended up a bit late by the time I'd called Broker - who had renewed the policy even though I'd not yet paid - bless her she understands ME people so gives me a month to get in touch! All sorted out over the 'phone (although might get back to her and check the value they've got because I bet it's more than the van is now worth).
It was quite bizarre to turn the clock back so far, or maybe we had gone full circle? Wasn't quite the happy reunion we'd all hoped for - our old friend was shocked to learn of DH's passing, and he's had his own share of tragedy which I hadn't known about.. But it was good to catch up, exchange current addresses etc.
CD gave us a fright; screaming when her ear got impaled on a cactus in the restaurant garden - but she waited for me to release her so no damage done, thank goodness.missrlr wrote:Yummy food, can I come an visit, will treat you to meals there every day at that price!
Who knows; might well happen, eh?
To be fair, that particular restaurant is a snow-birder haunt so their prices are probably set to attract the many ex-pats from North Europe who spend their winters living crammed together in a camp-site behind the beach. Comfortable enough; I've never seen such a fine collection of motor-homes and caravans, each one sprouting a satellite dish on a pole.
At the other end of the scale, it's not hard to get caught in other watering-holes where the bill for half a dozen diners will top £500! _pale_missrlr wrote:Life lessons for some via t'interweb ..... Has to be done in occasions distasteful as it is
Yers..grannyx2 wrote:Hope you survived the gardeningmissrlr wrote:hope you have not over done it with gardening!
..Did rather over-do it. Have today to recover before Gardener returns for another bash tomorrow.
It's going to be an expensive week to end the month. Might become the most expensive week of my life if Divo Four gets his way; wants to put in an asking price offer on a garden apartment. _pale_
Am not ready for this.debtfreewannabe321 wrote:And what was that about cake???? Any left for moi
But of course, ma cherie! Found some marzipan hiding in the store-cupboard, so how about Her Majesty's favourite - a battenburg - to go with our tea today?0
