    Yummy, yes please to cake

Hope whatever the reason is for friend's reaction is revealed to you soon, in the mean time remember worrying about it won't help. You can't really do much at all until she's ready to explain

Hello Diary and coffee-'n-cake club, :D :hello:

Patanne, welcome to the Nest! Please pull up a chair, help yourself to refreshments, and enjoy the view. ;)

Stopping lurking to say you have absolutely done nothing wrong, only done what a good friend would do for an old friend. It seems like they have taken a bit of a bashing from someone else in their life who should have had their best interests at heart & you have got the backlash. Please don't take it to heart, she is probably now too embarrassed to contact you which is why she hasn't answered you.

Thank you for coming out of Lurkdom to add your voice to my dilemma. Apologies for not replying yesterday - had to attend to the task put off from the day before, because I started feeling very wobbly while loading up the van with segregated rubbish (turned out to have a temperature; gone now thank goodness).

Clever Dog and I ended up walking on the beach by Moonlight last night, which gave me a chance to think about Mate's outburst calmly.
Don't think I can blame it on someone else having hurt her - she's not usually like that. She may be embarrassed now, or she may be waiting for me to apologise for my behaviour which has upset her..

Can you Email her and say sorry if you offended her, but it was just that you really wanted her company and didnt want to pressure her financially to satisfy your own need. The offer still stands if she fancied coming out to keep you company for a week or two ?

Sometimes its worth backing down, even if you know its not quite true ?

Hello Diary and Dear Friends, :hello:

The days are running away too fast - how can it be the weekend again, already?

Thank you Lucky, Granny, and Chev for your supportive posts re my apparently offended mate.
Apologies for not responding individually, but tbh feel that I've chewed over this subject more than enough during the last couple of days. :(
As always, your comments are invaluable for suggesting possibilities which haven't yet occurred to me. :T

re friend: some people get very touchy and perhaps being in the situation you decsribe she is more sensitive than most about the "don't get something for nothing" or "you owe me" that is pervasive in our society at present.

Doglet is currently sitting next to me demolishing a bone. I need to stir a stump and sort out traveling to London and working all weekend .... is a bonkers time at the moment

Hope your busy weekend isn't too hectic, Missrlr - please look after yourself, as well as all your responsibilities.
    (((hugs)))

Amused to note Doglet has you very well trained; chomping bones in the house says it all! :rotfl: :D

Took CD to the clinic the other day. Turns out I was completely wrong this time; she has nothing wrong with her teeth except the patch of plaque I'd found. Dear Vet said CD's mouth is in better condition than that of DV's own five year old hound, ascribing it to the bone-rich diet Daft Dogs have always had. (Hopefully Doglet is getting similar benefit from his bones, Missrlr :)).
After a very thorough examination and lots of questions about her behaviour, DV concluded that CD is mourning the loss of her best friend (she's never been an only dog before). :(

We are being kind to each other; CD is almost my shadow. :kisses3:

Hi Robin just catching up with your diary. Can't believe your friend went stroppy after your offer. Do you think she said passport needed renewing as an excuse not to visit? Has she kept the money? You are obviously too kind! It's her loss - she's lost a lovely thoughtful friend . Dogs are fantastic company - as I'm finding out for myself just lately!

    Hello Sun.A, :hello:

Good morning Early Bird! (- Not that it's early any more! :rotfl:)

Now believe she has been struggling for a while, but is a proud woman who does not like feeling beholden to anyone. Despite our long friendship she doesn't appear to understand that money per se, really is not important to me. It's exchange value is useful for achieving as much happiness as possible; be that bills paid, a great experience or simply providing the ingredients for a decent meal.
Among our circle of friends it is fairly normal for those with funds to assist when others have need - Lord knows I've borrowed or been gifted cash [or time/work] on many occasions over the years; the only obligation is that in turn, I help out when I can. :)

Am certainly not about to abandon a friendship of over thirty years standing just because a couple of stroppy emails have upset me.
Whether or not this issue has been sorted out before then, my route across the UK will include passing Mate's door - so of course I'll be dropping in with some bottles; a few hugs - and licks from CD - plus face to face conversation aided by contents of at least one carefully selected vintage, aught to sooth the ruffled feathers on both sides. ;)

Alas, no; CD was there when Little One died and we buried her. Clever Dog's thought processes are certainly good enough to understand what happened.
Dear Vet spoke about CD's new habit of stashing meat; pointing out that it is normal behaviour in wild dogs, and the only reason I've never seen it in CD is because the other Daft Dogs would have pinched any food not immediately eaten by it's owner.
Also, DV said maybe CD isn't very hungry at the moment I decide to feed her? It's true; not many wild dogs eat at set intervals.

Mad dog woman that I am, after speaking to DV I had a 'chat' with CD; took her round the garden showing her the stashes I've found, then to the holes dug by the young foxes. Told CD they will steal her grub if they find it (and that I can't afford to give chicken to wild animals unless in extremis, but doubt CD understood that bit, :rotfl:).

Since then, CD has modified her behaviour. Still seems to be burying some of her meat portion every day, but now only very close to the house; under the potting bench, in the long grass behind a patio support pillar, and next to her favourite 'look-out' spot. Reckon I can live with this new habit if it makes CD feel better - after all, we two-legged folk like to keep a snack or two about the place - so why shouldn't a dog (especially one who considers herself at least the equal of a human! :rotfl:)?
