Hello Diary and MSE Friends, :hello:
Thank you for popping in with such positive thoughts, Granny, Lucky, Knit Witch, Chev, MrsPG and Missrlr. :T
As the devastation in the Philippines becomes more apparent, my personal feelings of grateful relief are growing daily.
Life is such a matter of chance; DS applied to schools all over Asia when he and GF decided to go on this adventure. They could so easily have ended up in the thick of it.
Meanwhile need to give myself a good talking to: Am indulging in many and varied distraction activities in order to avoid the next stage of Paperwork mountain.
..It's taken quite a lot to admit that.0 -

I am feeling much the same as you, I feel embarrassed for getting so het up about my problems the other day, when in comparison to all the lives lost, those who've lost homes, family, jobs, food sources their need is so great I just can't imagine how they must be feeling. I turned the news on yesterday and a woman from the Philippines was on there crying hysterically about the fact they have no food/water/little shelter and it just made me cryI went straight on to their website set up for aid and donated. It eased my mind a little and then I felt bad and wondered if i'd only donated to ease my mind more so than helping
after all what can a measly score get over there?!

A 'measly score' adds up if enough folk join in. Remembered I hadn't contributed to Poppy Day this year after reading your post - hope the RBL will forgive me for sending another contribution to the Philippine aid effort instead.
But you're right; imagining one's own family in that situation brings it home how fortunate we all are really.
Have occasionally wondered whether I would 'loot' from an abandoned supermarket if I'd woken up to devastation, nobody turned up to help and my children hadn't eaten properly for a week? It's a question I - and everyone reading this diary - will probably never have to answer, thanks to a lucky accident of birth.
Very humbling.
Started today with great intentions (re. Paperwork Mountain). But suddenly the "Lie down now!" moment arrived much quicker than usual, just after posting earlier.
Woke up at dusk; whole day wasted.
CD must have dined off her buried stashes because she didn't wake me to ask for lunch - dog has more sense than I've credited her with, lol.0 -
I've just made a little donation too XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j
Best win so far - holiday to Florida0 -
Glad to hear your family are safe Robin. It really does make you realise how lucky we are. We might moan about our weather but we don't have anything on the scale of what's happened in the Philippines.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

I've had the privilege of helping by taking donations and passing on news; colleagues have been working 12-18 hour days to organise relief reaching those in need: blagging space on military planes and ships so that water, tarpaulins, food, blankets etc.
I feel so grateful that I can helpWhat would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Something of a panic this morning.
Gardener came yesterday; we finished the landslide prevention scheme and did some tidying up, during which I can distinctly remember putting the compost box, small saw and snappers, and house keys into a bucket (easier to carry down the garden than juggling individual items).
Was quite proud of myself for watering every single plant and tree - usually do it in three separate 'rounds' - until realising the pump which refills the water tank isn't working. _pale_
Tank is almost empty. Therefore no shower, no washing up, no flushing loo.. (This is the downside of not having a water bill to pay - it goes wrong, it's my problem).
'Phoned Plumber - he'll come this morning if I collect him (car in garage).
Up early, ready to go but - where are the house-keys?
Somewhere I have another set for the van, but Divo Four accidentally took the spare door keys with him..
Running out of time now (if Plumber needs parts to fix system we have to get into town before one o'clock).
St Anthony, St Anthony, please bring back my keys..
If I can find 'em in the next half hour will send a third donation to Philippine Relief Appeal - St Anthony, please take pity on a frantic [unwashed] woman!0 -
Oh no!! Did you find the keys?? I hope you did and get the water problems fixed! Nothing worse than having no water! Ours has been switched off several times over the last few months because of new houses being built nearby (think they keep springing a leak when digging foundations?!)
