i'm sure it would be charged more on a meter, with all the washing and flushing of toilets

Possibly, but a meter gives you the incentive to cut down on the amount of water you use (and waste), so that is a good thing.

£19 per month to Severn Trent on a meter. There are five of us here, but we are out all day at work/school during the week. We have showers mostly, dishwasher is on every day, washing machine on probably five times a week. I have a water butt to catch rainwater for the garden, and I don't wash the car (!).

I pay £45 per month to Welsh Water. We are not on a meter so it's based on the old rateable value of our house.

I pay £272.00 per year with Welsh Water; £27.20 a month over 10 months.

I guess I've been lucky as they couldn't put a meter in my house. When I rang to enquire they explained they couldn't (I live in the countryside) so they've reduced the bill to the number of people that live here, which is just myself & my 3 year old. When I explained my little one was disabled they gave me an additional discount.

I think I win! Its just me in a three bed terrace, I pay £7.50 a month for the up coming year, however I do recycle my bath/shower water to flush the toilet, no dishwasher, prob max of two washes a week and conserve water when and where I can, some would say I'm a bit weird about it!

Sammyjammy. I pay £14 a month and use just about 2 units per week. 1 adult 2 teenage daughters here all the time and a 6 year old.other teenage daughter comes every other week end and hasn`t grasped the fact we have water meter. Teenagers and myself use showers and little one has a bath. My kids think we must have the lowest water use. Wait until I tell them about recycling the bath and shower water.

Couple of questions re Welsh Water:
    1. If I have a meter installed and it costs me more can I change back to rateable value within 12 months
    2. Anyone with Welsh Water on a meter in similar situation to me.
2 adults, 1 12 year old. 1950's 4 bed semi. Dishwasher and washing machine on 5 days out of 7. At least 3 showers per day often 6. Only about 3 baths per week. Water garden during summer. Wash cars once a month. If so how much do you pay?

New to these chat forums... We pay Thames Water £14 a month, have a water meter (it was here when we moved in 2 years ago) and 5, soon to be 6 people in a 3-bed house. Maybe I need to check the bill and make sure we're not building up a huge bill! Sounds like we don't pay much compared to the rest of you. Until recently, I was washing nappies too - 3 children in 2 years makes for a lot of nappies - but now we have mass toilet trips and one flush at the end! Sorry, TMI?

    Sounds very sensible to me.............
Check the Thames Water site for charges.
We live in 4 bed detached in Surrey and it looks as though just for once something is less expensive in the South! There are 2 adults and occasional visitors.
Just checked on 3 Valleys site our charges are
26GBP/annum water standing charge then .8441/m3
43GBP/annum sewage standing charge then .4857/m3 - Thames Water

I also use the 'If it's yellow let it mellow' philosophy but my wife is not so keen.............
When I refit the bathroom we will have dual flush so that should help.

Last year paid 18GBP/month probably increase to 20GBP this year
