Guys, a tip would be to try and locate any leakage that you may not be aware of. I discovered that our toilet was leaking from the bowl to the water area. A very thin stream of water was flowing and it was very difficult to spot at first glance.
Such a small leakage can affect the water bill quite considerably IMO.

Don't understand - why can't you have a meter fitted because there are five people in the house?
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Same thing happened to me - I went out to have a look at my water meter and take a reading - I could see the numbers moving but everything was turned off! It was easily fixed thank goodness but it all adds up!!

I changed to meter in 200 and was paying 13.00 a month, last year I could see I wasn't paying enough (statement showed arrears) so they decided to make the direct debit 19.50 for 12 months and in May this year it will be £16.50 a month.

Before having a meter in 2005 I was paying 29.08 a month (gone up now) with Welsh Water, for past 12 months it has been £19.50 a month.

    2005 yearly bill = £348.96
    2006 yearly bill = £234.00 (saving £114.96)
    2007 from May £16.50 for 12 months = £198.00

This is pretty good as I am at home all day and night.

Is the £11-£14 readings with a meter or a set charge without a meter? Just curious. I pay a standard charge, no meter.

We are on a water meter - they come and read it every 3 months. Made a huge saving going on it.

trish - i am sure there is a site that you can put your details into and it will tell you whether it will save you money by going on a meter or not - i will try and find it for you.
