Ford ripping out parts of my car!

I wasn't meaning to imply that the car should be thrown away after 7 years - I buy my cars from new and normally run them to 12-15 years.
But ... as the car approaches the end of its design life, it will be increasingly expensive to maintain if you stick with wanting it to be perfect and using main dealer servicing - they aren't terribly geared up to keeping a car going on a budget
Yes, agree with all of that.Je suis Charlie.0 -
I did it for years but it gets to that time in life when you really can't be arsed any more to crawl about on the gravel in the pishing rain.
LOL, I suppose so! But I'll never let someone else lay a finger on beloved bikes: while I can still ride 'em I can still maintain 'em!Je suis Charlie.0 -
I must admit that some of the problem is the fact that I was late in the day learning to drive. i.e. this is my first car. So I was naive in this area.
I thank some of the more recent posts for their advice.
My major issue is that some of the components in the car that, on the way into the garage worked and now due to intentional actions are now permanently broken and I have an issue with why 'I' have to pay for the replacement.
If the engineers did not know what they were doing, then they should of said and I would of happily gone elsewhere.0 -
you want the car back before they can get the parts and complete the job, kriptikchicken wrote: »[FONT="]Hopefully someone can help me before I have to involve the Police (or other legal parties) - (mods/admin if there is a better place to post this please move)

I have a 03 Ford StreetKa, that seems to develop a problem with the handles getting in an out of the vehicle. Each year they go dead and I have to take it to the dealer (Peoples, Edinburgh) to get them fixed (approx £35). This year was no exception... well it was, this is what happened:
I took the vehicle to the dealer only to be told that 4 parts were completely broken and the damage would be in the region of £350+.
I was then told that the 'near side' handle was completely broken.
Now I knew it could not open the door, but it was still able to lock the door, electronically, when pushed in. When this is done the drivers door follows suit.
Well it did on the way 'in' to the show room, but not on the way out. One thing they probably will wish I have missed!
Here is a picture of the 'wrenched out' connector, that still works, if you hold it against the connectors. (sorry, it is not very photogenic!:o)
[FONT="]Beyond this they 'gutted out' the entire door. Here is what it should look like:
and
and here is what they returned with!
and
They then mentioned that they were to order the parts for this Wednesday, but were trying to insist that I leave the car with them! (this was before I saw what they had done) - it was very apparent that they had no idea what to do initially (before butchering my StreetKa) but went ahead, none the less. They knew that if I saw the destruction they had done on my StreetKa, I would probably be doing what I am doing now.
So their plan was to work on my perceived ignorance and passive complaining (that most people would do just grin and bear it) and move on to the next piece of work.
I will be sending them a copy of this and hopefully the manager will read it tomorrow and get back to me. If anyone can give me e-mails of higher up members of management, even to CEO level then that would be much appreciated. (press is welcome also)
Many thanks for reading, hopefully the press will find this an interesting story of customer care as well.

it is not free to put everything back to gether and then remove to finish the repairs that is an hours labour that could be added to your bill.
maybe i missed some thing can you point out what they have butched?0 -

The cabling from the inner door handle (which could still allow the car to be locked internally) has been obviously torn out of its sockets. The connector is now torn in half and completely non-functionl.
Over £100 has already been added to the bill for labour.
I took the car back before they got the parts because I needed to use it and I knew it would just sit in the car park doing nothing otherwise. When the parts come tomorrow, it goes back and they can do their work. I don't mind waiting while they do it.
I am just a bit worried that they don't know how to complete the work yet and would rather that I wasn't sitting there waiting.0 -
As you say it works when the two halves are placed together, it sounds like they've just separated the connector.kriptikchicken wrote: »......The connector is now torn in half and completely non-functionl...
Or are you saying its been smashed in some way?0 -

again we still don't see it
All i see i a removed door panel
once you start to work inside a door(and believe me,they arent designed for easy access, then it can look messy
A broken connector and what else?0 -
A broken connector and what else?
I don't believe any of the door handles are faulty, I DO believe that their prognosis of a faulty lock and motor though. Also the trim handle was fine on entry but I was told that they would have to order another one of that. Now these may sound petty, but an outside handle, inside handle and a trim handle + labour to remove the old and install the new builds up on the bill. Everything doesn't die at once in a multi-functional system, there is usually a single point of failure... which in this case is the motor and lock. IMO.0 -

So nothing is 'damaged'?
you are disputing the diagnosis and fault rectication offered?
So the lock and motor are faulty?
So how did the 'Handles' go 'dead' in your opening post?
Given this is an ongoing problem, could this be the point where the parts in question need replacing rather than ....what did they actually do in previous years? lubricate?0
