I strongly suspect by the overreaction and the way the posts come across that the OP is in late teens or early twenties.
This is not a flame, but I would suggest that you take a few breaths before you post or talk to the dealer.
I suspect you have not been as "nice" as you infer to the dealership staff.
If it was so easy why did you not fix it yourself.
Any job that is as easy as you think it is should be well within your apparent capabilites, don't know why you bothered the dealer.
Back in the distant past when I ran a garage, if you had acted like it seems you have I would have simply told you to do one, and left the bits of your old knacker in the boot.:D0 -
I would love to see your face if you see what they do to replace the clutch.
Ever seen a garage use a spreader bar to save removing the box? OUCH!!!
Are the CV joints and rubber boots meant to move that far and at those angles?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I am actually almost 40. Somewhere in this forum you may read about my battle with Vodafone where I got 6 or 7 users brand new Storm2's (were ok at the time)for free when they were told it was an impossibility. That is why I think (no matter how lame) it is important to show companies that their products and/or service are not up to scratch. We will see the outcome, what ever it is. But I know, no matter what car or how old it is, 70 odd quid for a door handle is !!!!en ridiculous and I resent paying it.
If we are going to hypothesis over ages, I think that most here that think I am a moron got their first car bought by 'daddy' when they passed their test... and also 'said' daddy pays it's maintenance costs (i.e. MOT, Servicing and any stupid bling !!!! like huge exhausts and racing stripes or neon mods) on something that is a 1.0 or 1.2 like a Corsa or Ka.
I don't have time to do the job myself as I work in IT.
In conclusion, it is sad that people cannot have a discussion without resorting to slander. This thread is a good example of where the internet phrase 'troll' came to be.0 -

Yes you do have a Ka, just one with posh knickers. Its a car with a design life of ~7 years and its now living on borrowed time.kriptikchicken wrote: »I don't have a Ka, the car type is mentioned numerous times in the text (for which you obviously have not read).0 -

You came on here asking for advice, and when you got it, you started to get a bit gobby.
The fact is, you have a 9 year old car with an electrical problem. A maindealer has a big showroom and large overheads compared to an independent, so you should have gone to a local garage (who specialise in Fords/Ka's) or better still an auto electrician.
All cars with electrics (meaning all cars actually) go a bit flaky after eight or nine years, but if your has a problem every year, then it is time to get rid of the car and buy another one, particularly if you know that this is a common fault.
As for you not having enough time to work on your own car, just because you "work in IT", well you have enough time to come on here and post, so perhaps you could learn about - time management.0 -
Surely they gave you an estimate on price before leaving the car?
Do you even understand what job they are performing and what is required to achieve this? I suspect you don't so I do not see how you can reasonably take such an action without any form of technical knowledge!
I had my brake discs changed about 6 months ago!! Maybe I should have complained when they took my wheels off and started removing my pads ************* morons, they should have squeezed the discs between the gaps in the alloys!!0 -
Disagree that you should throw a car away after 7 years.
My two cars are 12 and 14 years old and still going strong. My two motorcycles likewise at 9 and 17 years.
Helps if you can maintain them yourself however, and would certainly never take any of them to a main stealer!Je suis Charlie.0 -

Only take the car to the dealer up until the manufacturer's warranty applies, then find a good/reliable independent, or as you say Bazster, do as many jobs as possible yourself.
At least when I change the discs and pads, I know that I have fully tightened all the bolts, unlike a large garage many years ago, who failed to do the caliper and wheel bolts up more than finger tight - that could have proved interesting had I not pulled over onto the hard shoulder a bit sharpish.0 -

I wasn't meaning to imply that the car should be thrown away after 7 years - I buy my cars from new and normally run them to 12-15 years.
But ... as the car approaches the end of its design life, it will be increasingly expensive to maintain if you stick with wanting it to be perfect and using main dealer servicing - they aren't terribly geared up to keeping a car going on a budget0
