I still use my SKY HD subscription. I dont know why though. All the entertainment channels are just showing films and shows which ive seen a thousand times before.

So cancel it. I assume there is nothing on Sky 1 or Sky Atlantic that takes your fancy.

  • I plan on doing the same tomorrow. Plan on using the money to start saving for next years holiday!
However I would like some advice on the Freesat boxes, especially the ones which have iplayer and itv player built in? Does anyone have any experience with these boxes? Can u get anymore channels thro these boxes or shall i just stick with the inbuilt freeview on tv?
I know ultimately its down to my tastes but if anyone can advise the differences between the 2?

If you cancel Sky the Digibox automatically becomes a Freesat from Sky decoder. If it's a HD box it will also pick up the free-to air HD channels. You therefore won't require a Freesat box such as you describe unless the Sky one is old or faulty.
If you subsequently want BBC iPlayer etc, then you can buy Blu Ray players (or a lot of the new Smart TVs) which can access these. Do bear in mind that you'll still need a broadband connection.
  • Thanks, didn't realise. Will I still be able to record with the sky hd+ box?

No, recording and playback cost £10, a month or so.

You won't get Freeview via the built in Freeview tuners unless you have a working aerial. So if you haven't, then using the existing dish and LNB with Freesat is a better option-it's just a straight box swap.

I rang up to cancel my Sky a few months ago, and they were DESPERATE to keep me!
I did stay with them as the deal offered was to good to turn down.

So now I pay them £27 a month for the full TV package (except movies & sports), unlimited 20mbps broadband, phone AND line rental!

I spent around 45 mins with the guy on the phone, as he was giving me so many discounts etc he was having trouble getting the system to apply them.:o
  • I do have a lovely, shiney new aerial so no worries!
Will give it all a whirl, see how it goes. Thanks.

We get our broadband through them as well. I suppose im going to stay with them until something better comes along. Plus i really hate the canceling procedure.

The sci fi channel is always good though.

You can cancel the TV but keep the broadband, Sky sell it as a stand alone product, however you'll lose the £2.50 discount.
