The box is expensive but, with Youview you get freeview, plus catchup TV via the internet and pay per view movies from Sky.

Thanks penrhyn, i had a quick look at that Youview. £300 does seem a lot but that's RRP, and nobody ever charges that, so it may be a thing to follow what happens after the launch.

As you said earlier, though, if you are paying in the area of £60 a month to Virgin (or Sky) you could use the money to finance a holiday or buy all the Poirot complete series box sets on DVD

Do note that cancelling cable will not automatically mean you have access to Freeview. A Sky box becomes a Freesat from Sky box on cancellation of subscription. Virgin Media equipment is deactivated and usually must be returned.

What makes you say that? Surely the box belongs to the purchaser, not YouView?

There is no way for us to know for certain it was part of the trial, though. However, I do agree it's unlikely to be someone who just paid £300 for it !

The seller says as much in their ad, on re reading it says that the box is not available until later in the month.

Yes, just read it, but it also seems to be saying the item can be sold on after 24th August as until then it's "obligated to YouView".
