i think those are all positive steps OP, and I'm glad to see you both managing to come up with solutions to the overspending. Good luck to you both :).
  • If the thought of making packed lunches every day is too much, you can batch make a load of sarnies for the week and then freeze them. If you get them out when you need them in the morning, they will be defrosted by lunchtime

Would grandma babysit the little ones overnight so you could have a night in with friends once a month?

Do you know, I think she might...:)
  • Just out of interest, can you pretty much freeze any sandwich fillings, like packet meats, tuna etc? Thanks.

I have never, but I have frozen packets of ham and they have to be defrosted with a slit in the pack to drain the water away so i'm guessing they would be soggy. Perhaps you could freeze just one and check.

My DH's packed lunch takes about 2 mins whilst something else is on the stove, and goes in the fridge overnight. What were you planning on giving him? Mine gets a roll/bap/sandwich with meat/cheese/tuna and salad, fruit, crisps and a cereal bar/or hm cake. It's really very quick.

I feel for you, I am in a similar situation although not quite as bad.
I work long hours don't buy clothes, no social life, no beauty treats whilst he goes out 2-3 times a week and can easily blow £60 in a night, buys himself stuff which he wants (doesn't need) and then never uses.

Following anothe thread of mine I've realised I'm making myself I'll I need to look after myself.
Do you have joint accounts, could u open him his own and he has a weekly amount going in? Once it's gone its gone then it doesn't eat into the family money etc?
Also look at a fuel card, it means he can buy petrol but nothing else at the petrol station so can never "need" additional money for fuel. That way his spends really are his spends? (take other cards away)
It sounds like what u do to a child but this is how they react. You shouldn't have to do it but for your sanity it might be better.

Oh and when working out his spends you get the same amount. It means he'll get less and have to Prioritse but you also get what u deserve.

I realised this weekend I'm no longer wasting my life being miserable, I've already done that for 10 yrs. it stops now!

Phew!! Sorry made me feel much better!

    Good luck!

I *think* there is a thread about freezing sandwiches over on the oldstyle board. You might need to have a search. If you are also adding crisps/biscuits etc to pack up allocate an area where you put all items like this and then you add x amount to the sarnies.

One of our managers always has a ham sandwich at work that she froze at the beginning of the week etc.

I know you can also freeze cheese?

Not sure about anything else ...
