I asked about this on another page and got short shrift. It may well be a daft question but still I am perplexed. So I rely on my MFW chums to know the answer.

Why when I OP my mortgage and transfer the money between 2 accounts with the same provider does it show leaving my current account on one day but not show on my mortgage account until the next day, when doing internal transfers between current account and savings accounts shows up instantly? I will speak to the bank next time I'm in town but wondered if any of you knew off the top of your heads? (Those heads that are not sore from Tillys' party!!)

My head is still banging from the party but I will try to answer..
There could be a number of factors involved..
The most probable is that your current account and your mortgage are under 2 distincts financial institutions.. for example you could have your current account with bank A and mortgage with bank A.. To the outside world it looks like its the same company, but internally they are distinct from one another.. 2 separate entities, usually with very distinct investment risks factors.. transfers should be instant, however thats how they make their money, they hold (for as little as a few hours) that fluctuates on the market, gain interest in the meantime..
The likely answer you will get is: "It's the time needed for the administration and allocation of the payment"..

    Hope this helps..

  • Hiya, Froggy is probably right and I would agree with him, although I am pretty certain they use the cash on the money markets to take every opportunity to increase their £. No clue if that's true, just my own view.

They all deserve to have headaches :):)

  • Thank you both - I did wonder if that might be the case but stupidly thought they are earning enough in interest already. Woe is me for being so naive :o All the more motivation to be MF asap.
  • So last week I started a diet on Thursday. Its high protein no fat no carbs and I am happy to say that I have lost a few pounds already :) I can eat as much as I want and that helps but its not cheap. I just want to loose enough to get going and then it will be salads all the way to Xmas. I need to get rid of some of the excess so that I can do more exercise which will help with my back. There is a plan I just have to follow it - no pain no gain :(

I have come home and managed to spend less than £10 over the last 3 days. Not quite NSD but as cheap as it gets. Only a couple of days at home this week and got to get the spare room ready as Father-in-law will be staying after his op end of next week. Also found out that I will not be working over Xmas this year so full steam ahead to get everthing planned. Yip yip yip :T I spent a fortune last year and will not be doing it again. Xmas will most likely be at our house but I will stick to a meal plan and budget. I went wildly over-board last year with the little silly bits and no-one eat them or wanted them after the dinner so this year will be scaled down. I'm almost tempted to see how little I can spend. Let's not get too carried away though. Any tips for some cheap treats that are family favourites with you?
  • So far so good with the diet moving on to phase 2 from today so slower weight loss but easier to follow now can eat nearly all veg so soup is back on the menu. NSD today. Acupuncture tomorrow already paid for but the last one so will need to spend next time. All good so far this week. Carrot and corriander soup tonight yip yip yip.
  • Now why are my scales playing cruel tricks on me. For two days now I have switched them on, stood on them (as is necessary) and they have shown me a weight that has truely amazed me. So just to make sure, I've stood back and stood on them again and with nearly an audible laugh they have then shown a weight 9lb heavier. Really, its hard enough without this sort of mockery!

Back to work today so other than petrol it will be a NSD. Yesterday was a lovely walk by the river which was a bonus after meeting a friend for coffee as the weather was so lovely. Xmas treat booked for DH off to the theatre in London. We get concessionary travel so still a cost effective day out other than the price of the theatre tickets. Will book a 2-4-1 restaurant deal and make a day of it. Feeling quite good today :)

I hate the scales  they never go down when they're meant too!

If you know you're sticking to your diet then just ignore them for a while.. or kick them a lot as you walk past, whilst cursing, then weigh again next week!

I used to weigh myself every day, but only write it down once a month. Weighing every day kept me on track, but writing down once a month gave me a great sense of satisfaction when I saw the downward trajectory.

Another option might be writing down once a week.

Sadly my slowing metabolism and lack of exercise is catching up with me and trajectory is all in the wrong direction now <sigh>

    Best of luck!

  • I am back home - a day late. Its a bit of a nuisance as I now have only 2 days to put off the stuff that I would normally have 3 days to put off doing.

An extra day away means I had more chances to shop. Its no major achievement not spending as I am no good at shopping anyway. People come back with bags stuffed full and I think "ooooh that's lovely" but when I wander around I manage to miss all of it. I did buy 2 skirts as I've decided that skirts, tights and boots are the way to go this winter. My problem is tops. I went looking and came back empty handed and frustrated. Think it might be a bit cold to wander around in my vest all winter so must try harder.

Diet went a bit haywire due to being away a bit longer than I thought but the hard work must be paying off as have dropped 2lb even by evil laughing scales standard. The bonus to the extra day away means extra money and that will mean more OP at the end of December. We only started to OP in May and we are on target for £2500 by the end of this year. I was thinking of uping this to £3k but that would be quite a hike over the next 2 months. Never satisfied :o

It appears we might be getting some sort of backpay from work early next year. It could be a chunk of my new kitchen fund or it could really kick start the 2013 MFW OP mission. Nice position to be in though to have some unexpected money to spend :)
  • I like the idea of writing the weight down once a month but not sure I am that disciplined. I think you are right that weighing daily is a bonus to keep you on the straight and narrow. Even better idea to kick scales when I catch them laughing at me :o
