Hello Hello - Happy October everyone  Clearly not like last year, no sunglasses needed.
Well its short and sweet - hurrah you cry for once - we found a holiday and are off to sunnier shores tomorrow. Money saving will have to wait 'til next week. I managed to save a little more last month so have achieved my targets but barely. This month will be a zero month. I will spend no more than I have and save next to nothing. Money can't buy a week with the DH :T:j:D;)0 -
Hope you're enjoying your holidays Numpty xxMortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0

We're back and didn't spend all our holiday money so will save that for next time. It could well be another pleasure/pain month but lets hope not.
The holiday was fab. We were really lucky with the weather and although the hotel was a bit hit and miss we had a good time until we got a phone call to say my father-in-law had been taken in to hospital having had a minor heart attack. He's ok and needs an op but it was a bit of a shock to say the least. He's back at home so we can rest a bit easier now.
I need to get back into the money saving mode but have a few distractions at present. I'll keep you posted as and when I can0 -
Something I forgot to mention, while away I started my swimming mission. Did better than I thought but still a long way to go. It was easy as the pool was there, even if it was icy getting in and free as all part of the holiday. I think my motivation will be tested somewhat over these winter months.
Pain continues, DH booby trapped the stairs yesterday and I fell down them!! Stiff as a board today but managed to get the last of the apples from Thug and even a few raspberries that are till coming through.
Washing blowing on the line that's nice to see. As per a conversation on the radio today we have decided to see if we can make it through this month without turning on the heating. We've avoided it so far with jumpers and then the week away but will see how we get on. DH getting up at 4am for work might be a bit of an ask for him to join in but he's up and out in less than an hour at that time of the morning so we will see. Feeling a bit fed up, post holiday blues I expect. Also mid month and can't see where next MS idea will come fromHey-ho.

Sorry to hear about your bad news Numpty.. and your fall. Hope your feeling a little less sore today!
Good luck on your heating challenge.. xMortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
Thanks Shala_moo - things settling down now. Its no surprise that the budget is shot this month but its been worth it with the week away and DH's birthday. The fall did little more damage to me - what do they say, no sense no feeling!
A weekend away staying with my sis so all hail staying with the rellies, good weather and some brisk walks blowing the cobwebs away. Crazy golf and fish and chips, heaven. Definately cheap and cheerful but shared with my favourite people.
We set the heating to 16 degrees and much to my surprise the heating came on when we came home. I think 16 degrees is low enough indoors but we tried. Its a triumph we are not keeping the heating on and slowly turning it up. We will just take the chill off and turn it off. Slow and sure for the rest of this month.0 -
This week I'm consolidating. I will manage to knock a few jobs off my list that are still half finished. We have been given a leaf sucker and that is yet to be tested but is on the list along with the steam window cleaner machine.
Today I have been thinking about the jobs to do - clearly something that can only be done sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea. Whilst pondering I have been visited by a local Jay. It has visited us a few times in the last couple of weeks and is my excuse for being rooted to the sofa today. Earlier this week we also had a green woodpecker. Being right in the middle of suburbia these birds are a treat. We have some large trees here and there but not really woodland. So, if I'm going to sit about I will make it count and do one of the many sewing jobs on my list
Broccoli and stilton soup on the menu today and spicy parsnip will be in the next couple of days. Red lentil and bacon tomorrow so will soak the lentils now. Well that's beginning to look a bit like a plan0 -
Mr NKN - now known as Captain Calamity - has had a run of senior moments. He has unplugged the fridge and the freezer for no apparent reason. Locked the car keys in the car and broken the water jug. I'm not worried
I leave him unsupervised every week and wonder what I will come home to next. Never a dull moment here. Today I will mostly be cooking everything from the freezer.
Only 5 days til my update and see if I can save anything this month. I'm hopeful for a small amount. The standard OP went with the DD for the mortgage but we are never happy with that so even a few pounds would be satisfying.
 If you are a cat lover - look away now. Blooming neighbours' cat 'pooofed' a pidgeon in our garden yesterday. I know its the law of the jungle but I love watching the birds and they won't come if that blooming cat keeps stalking them. (Pooofing - term used in our household when a pidgeons' demise is 'pooof' and a cloud of feathers is all that's left, also used if a car collides with a pidgeon) Looks like the garden vac will get a good work-out when I get round to it.0 -
So today (a day early) I have updated my signature. OP extra £28.75 exactly what I had left in my current account when I got paid
I spent savings on our holiday but have managed to take some of this months money and squirrel it away already so savings up. It is short on my target but the holiday was an extra this year. I also commit to saving more this month too.
We tried out the window cleaning toy this afternoon and I'm quite impressed with it. More impressed that it got me to clean the windows. I might even have another go tomorrow with the upstairsCapt Calamity can't wait to get up the ladders again to do the outsides!
I came home this morning to a pearl of Capt Calamity wisdom and I quote "Whats the point of cake if you can't eat it?" Written on the back of an evelope proped up against the kettle. On that note....0 -
I asked about this on another page and got short shrift. It may well be a daft question but still I am perplexed. So I rely on my MFW chums to know the answer.
Why when I OP my mortgage and transfer the money between 2 accounts with the same provider does it show leaving my current account on one day but not show on my mortgage account until the next day, when doing internal transfers between current account and savings accounts shows up instantly? I will speak to the bank next time I'm in town but wondered if any of you knew off the top of your heads? (Those heads that are not sore from Tillys' party!!)0
